President Obama’s Climate Change Initiative Gets Global ‘Thumbs Up’
195 nations sign accord to save the planet.
Interview With People Magazine
President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle recently did an in- terview with People Maga- zine, not about politics about their top picks for film, televi- sion and music in 2015. In the exclusive interview for a spe- cial Campaign 2015 edition of the magazine, the pair actually gave some very surprising an- swers.
President Obama re- vealed that his favorite movie this year is The Martian starring Matt Damon, and First Lady Michelle says she most enjoyed the ani- mated movie Inside Out.
Favorite Songs President Obama also re-
vealed that his favorite song is “How Much a Dollar Cost” by Kendrick Lamar, and First Lady Michelle says she ab- solutely loves “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars.
Favorite TV Shows
And what about TV shows? Well, President Obama ap- parently is a huge fan of the Cinemax drama series The Knick starring Clive Owen, and his wife loves ABC’s Black-ish starring Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis
President and First Lady Obama.
President Barack Obama will be remembered as the president who pushed to save the world from climate change. The 195-nation accord aimed at curbing global warm- ing is being reported at home as fragile, because Congress has to agree, and, the Presi-
dent leaves office in a year. More than any of his other top accomplishments—eco- nomic recovery, health care re- form, the Iran deal, all of which involved Congress to some extent— President Obama’s environmental legacy rests on the exercise of executive power over the ob- jections of Republican law-
makers.
In announcing the deal from
the White House on Saturday, the President used pointed language to note that his ad- ministration laid the ground- work without help from Congress. He cited new limits on power plant emissions, in-
vestments in renewable tech- nologies and an agreement with China to do the same — all actions he took on his own.
"Today thanks to strong, principled American leader- ship," he said, we'll leave our children "a world that is safer and more secure, more pros- perous and more free, and that is our most important mission in our short time here on this earth."
The reliance on presidential authorities means that while President Obama can take much of the credit for the agreement, its ultimate suc- cess is in the hands of the next administration.
"The President is making promises he can’t keep, writ- ing checks he can’t cash, and stepping over the middle class to take credit for an ‘agree- ment’ that is subject to being shredded in 13 months," Sen- ate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a state- ment.

Favorite Books
And books? The president says his favorite book is Lau- ren Groff’s Fates and Fu- ries, which explores the key to a great marriage from two dif- ferent perspectives. The First Lady says she loved The Light of the World by Elizabeth Alexander, a memoir about the sudden death of her hus- band.
Favorite Moments
And last but not least, comes the presidential couple’s fa- vorite moments of the year. President Obama said his favorite moment was when he appeared on an episode of
NBC’s Running Wild where he trekked through the wilder- ness with Britsh adventurer Bear Grylls. He says also en- joyed seeing people gather outside the White House after the Supreme Court ruled to uphold the right of same sex couples to get married.
And First Lady Michelle says her favorite moment of the year was spending time with young people, especially when she went to a school in Cambodia and spent time with young girls there. She said she really was touched by one young girl who read her a poem she had written called “Let Girls Learn”.
President Obama Visits The Pentagon To Discuss ISIS
President Barack Obama visited the Pentagon on Monday to review the mili- tary campaign against ISIS with national security advis- ers, his first visit since the at- tacks in San Bernardino and Paris.
White House press secre- tary Josh Earnest cautioned on Friday that no major policy shifts would come as a result of the meeting, but that it is more of an "update." The President gave remarks fol- lowing the meeting.
"They're always assessing whether or not there are some intensifications that can be used to benefit our strategy, but there is no specific an- nouncement of a change that I know of that's planned for Monday, but we will see what the meeting yields," Earnest told reporters at the White House briefing.
The President once again vowed that the United States is stepping up the campaign to destroy ISIS, during his weekly address issued Satur-

day.
"Our airstrikes are hitting
ISIL harder than ever, in Iraq and Syria," the President said. "We're taking out more of their fighters and leaders, their weapons, their oil tankers. Our special perations forces are on the ground -- be- cause we're going to hunt down these terrorists wher- ever they try to hide."
President Obama's ISIS policy has been under re- newed scrutiny from Republi-
cans following attacks on Paris and in San Bernardino.
Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Friday that the President will be briefed by a wide range of advisers from the Defense Department, State Department, representa- tives of the intelligence com- munity, law enforcement and homeland security.
The President will con- tinue to stay focused on coun- terterrorism efforts throughout the week. The White House also announced later this week the President will go to the National Coun- terterrorism Center to review efforts across the government to prevent attacks on the homeland.
In his weekly address, Pres- ident Obama also refer- enced the decision to have the Department of Homeland Se- curity update its alert system to "ensure Americans get more information."
Monday marked the Presi- dent's first visit to the Penta- gon since July.
