Hillsborough County Public Schools wants to hire 1,000 teachers for the 2016- 2017 school year, and to ac- complished that, they are hosting a “teacher interview day” on Saturday, May 21st at Middleton High School.
Jessica Vega, School District’s Office of Commu- nications/Strategic Market- ing, said factors contributing to the need to hire more teachers are retirement, mil- itary deployment, and the desire to hire highly qualified and highly effective instruc- tors.
“We desperately need more bi-lingual teachers that can connect with the stu- dents, but what’s really miss- ing are African American male instructors who could also act as mentors.
“Because the majority of the males wind up in admin- istrative positions, statisti- cally there are more women teaching.”
Vega said they are look- ing for anyone who can im- pact the lives of the students, because the students are the traditional variety they used to be.
“We want instructors at a certain skill level and who have real life experiences. We also need teachers pa- tient enough to teach dis- abled students.
“Right now, we are train- ing instructors who are really passionate, and really want to work with the students.”
Vega said you have to have a Bachelor’s degree and a desire to impact the lives and minds of a lot of young people.
“Information sessions are being offered so prospects can decide if this is what they want to do,” said Vega.
“Currently, we have 139 applicants waiting to get started. We’re also looking to do more of these kind of projects.”
Vega said they also will be initiating a new venture called “The Turnaround Achievements Awards.”
This award is for middle and high school students who were considered lazy and with problems, but turned their lives around and are now helping their peers.
“We are looking for teachers who presently don’t have a degree in education or any teaching certifications,” said Vega.
His Reputation
Lord, I pray You would keep my husband safe from the evil or gossiping mouths. Let them be ashamed and brought to confu- sion who seek to destroy his life; let them be driven backward and brought to dishonor who wish him evil (Psalm 40:14). May he trust in You and not be afraid of what man can do to him (Psalm 56:11). For You have said whoever believes in You will not be put to shame (Ro- mans 10:11). Lead him, guide him, and be his mighty fortress and hiding place. May his light so shine before men that they see his good works and glorify You, Lord (Matthew 5:16).
Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake. Rejoice and be ex- ceedingly glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. MATTHEW 5:11-12
His Fatherhood
Lord, I pray that my husband will understand how to disci- pline our children properly. May he never provoke his children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). I pray we will be united in the rules we set for our children and be in full agreement as to how they are raised. I pray that there will be no strife or argument over how to handle them and the issues that surround their lives. Give him skills of communication with his children. I pray he will not be thought of by them as stern, hard, cruel, cold, and abu- sive, but rather may they see him as kind, softhearted, loving, warm, and affirming.
Children’s children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children is their father. PROVERBS 17:6
