BY LEON B. CREWS Sentinel Staff Writer
On Saturday, November 14th at the Center For Manifes- tation, 3102 East Lake Avenue, playwright Michael Daniel will be presenting his play, “Masquerade” to the East Tampa community.
Daniel said he spent two years completing the play, and he was inspired by a song from the “Phantom of the Opera” called “Hiding Your Face From The World.”
“I took it from the perspec- tive of hiding from past pains and unresolved issues.
“I’ve been writing plays and skits for 13 years, but this is my
first sole production, and the play will be an hour-and-a-half long.”
Daniel said his brother was involved in a drama group in church, and his mother took him to a series of Christian plays.
“At some point in the fu- ture, I expect to get into film production.
“I’ve learned that you have to write from the point of view of different characters, and what will relate to your audi- ence. You also have to select a competent staff, and in the end it’s all about promotions, and that can get very extensive.”
Daniel said like any other artist, he puts a little of himself

into his writing, and tends to favor social issues, not neces- sarily current events.
“My next play will center around prostitution. I have to do a lot of research before I start writing. You have to learn from the experiences of others, and document every detail.”
Daniel said he has a friend who witnessed her father killing her mother, and there was a lot of energy and emo- tion involved in that.
“Now, I have people shar- ing their experiences with me, and some of them are extreme situations.”
