A native of Clayton, Ala- bama, Mrs. Baker moved to Tampa as an adult. More than 50 years ago, she moved into her home at the corner of N. 34th Street and Shadowlawn Avenue. Several years ago, Mrs. Baker moved so that the home could be demolished and a new home was built on the property.
That was the location where she raised her 4 chil- dren, many of her grandchil- dren, and many of the children she babysat for through the years.
Pastors Rochester and Vanda Jacobs said Mrs. Baker suffered a stroke about a year ago, but she was recov- ering. She had been making major steps to recover re- cently.
“She was passionately known by generations as “The Frozen Cup Lady.” She had worked at Townes Laundry, but she was an entrepreneur. Everyone knew about Ms. Mary’s Sweet Potato Pies,” he said.
Mrs. Baker was also known for caring for other people, whether they were children or adults. Pastor Vanda Jacobs said, “She raised several generations and I remember growing up that we had hospital beds in our house. She would take care of friends and others. She was al-

Mrs. Baker came from a family of 10 children. She and her 103-year-old sister, Mrs. Versie Crews, were the last two siblings of the family.
