Donations Stream In For Homeless Dad After Video Goes Viral
James Moss and son, Zhi
DENVER, CO --- In Octo- ber, James Moss moved to Denver from New York with his 1-year-old son, Zhi look- ing for a better life. A friend offered him a place to stay and a job opportunity but shortly after arriving things took a turn, both his housing and job were gone.
"It seemed like everything I was trying to do was falling apart," Moss told KDVR.
Days after learning that he was homeless, and while searching for a shelter, Moss had a chance meeting with Leon Logothetis, a motiva- tional speaker, whose viral movement #GoBeKind pro- motes random acts of kind- ness.
Logothetis, with camera crew in tow, approached Moss to interview him about kindness. Moss began talking about his recent experiences.
"Everything I do is for him," Moss said of his son. "The reason I made this move is for him. To be in a peaceful place, the mountains, I want him to experience things that I missed growing up."
Moss told Logothetis that his new move has been tough, but he believes that his recent setbacks were all a part of a divine plan.
"You have to be brought down to your humblest point so you can appreciate other things that are waiting for you," he told Logothetis.
What happened next, set into motion a series of events that helped changed Moss'
life."Most people don't want to share their pain, I want to say thank you,” Logothetis said. “And the way I'm going to say thank you is by giving you $1,000."
Logothetis also put Moss and his son in a hotel for a week. Moss was brought to tears: "You gotta be freak- ing kidding me, man," he said.
Logothetis' posted the video, as a part of his #GoB- eKind Tour, to YouTube as simply "Chapter 4: James." The video has been viewed more than 690,000 times.

Some of her victims (L-R): Tamara Breeden, Derwin McLemire and Herbert Knowles who were being starved to death, gave testimony.
ATLANTA, GA — On Sat- urday, December 19th, mas- ter motivator and founder of Be Someone, Orrin C. Hud- son, will host a community event for local Black teens in the Atlanta area to inspire them to “choose peace in- stead of violence.”
The event is free to the public, and is designed to ad- dress the high rates of crime and violence that persists in Atlanta’s Black communities.
During the community gathering/ workshop/ semi- nar, teens will learn how to make better and more peace- ful decisions, how to make
money legally, how to stay away from the pitfalls in life, and how to effectively man- age anger and disappoint- ment.
Over the past 15 years, Hudson has successfully trained more than 40,000 young ones across the coun- try. “I know firsthand what it’s like. I am a former gang member from Birmingham’s housing projects. I shared a small home with six brothers and six sisters. You do the math. I came through! Now, it’s my turn to help.”
Hudson says his goal is to help one million youth.
Linda Weston, the woman responsible for impris- oning mentally disabled adults in a boiler room, has been sen- tenced to life in prison.
According to the New York Daily News, Weston pleaded guilty in September to 196 counts of kidnapping, racket- eering conspiracy, and murder in aid of racketeering, hate crimes, sex trafficking and fraud. The 55-year-old kid- napped six mentally disabled adults and four children in an effort to collect their social se-
curity checks and kept them hostage from 2001 to 2011.
She also sedated them with drugs in their food and con- vinced them to name her as their primary caregiver. She forced some of her victims into prostitution, the report says. Two of her prisoners died within the nearly 11-year-pe- riod of the kidnapping. Her son, now 29, says he escaped his mother, after she locked in the basement for a year.
Weston reportedly col- lected $212,000.
H&M Apologizes For Twitter Remark: ‘White Models Project Better Images’
Retailer H&M
The fashion industry has never been known as a bastion of diversity, but talk about let- ting the proverbial cat out of the bag. H&M apologized last week for a comment on Twit- ter that said white models por- tray a more "positive image" for the brand.
The apology came after so- cial media user, Tlalane Letlhaku, tweeted H&M South Africa, asking workers to please include more Black models in its global marketing
campaign.
The company tweeted back
that its workers make selec- tions that “convey a positive image” in its stores.
Twitter promptly went off:
Is the apology (above) enough? Clearly the negativity represents a mindset that does not disappear with a simple apology.
H&M regrets the response to a social media message that was recently aired and wishes to clarify the intention.
It’s Christmas time! Enough said.
ATLANTA, GA --- Two for- mer sheriff’s deputies received sentences on Friday for their involvement in the death of Matthew Ajibade, a men- tally ill Georgia man, Reuters reports.
Jason Kenny received a one-month jail sentence—to be served on weekends—plus three years of probation. The court gave Maxine Evans six years of probation.
Greg Brown, a former nurse, received a three-year suspended sentence for mak- ing a false statement.
A Savannah, Ga., jury cleared the former Chatham County Sheriff’s deputies of involuntary manslaughter last month in Ajibade’s death. In- stead, the jury convicted Kenny of cruelty to an in- mate. The jurors found Evans, his former supervisor, guilty of public records fraud and perjury.
Reuters reports that Chris Oladapo, Ajibade’s cousin, provided a written statement on behalf of the family, through their attorney: “What- ever sentence is handed down
MATTHEW AJIBADE
here today makes no differ- ence. These three people are just pawns, and those in lead- ership, most culpable, will be left unpunished.”
Ajibade, 22, died in an iso- lation cell last New Year’s Day. A Chatham County coroner’s report ruled his death a homi- cide—listing “blunt force trauma” as the cause of death.
According to the news agency, court testimony re- vealed that the Nigerian stu- dent was tasered multiple times while restrained in a chair. NBC obtained graphic video that shows Ajibade in his underwear being tasered in his groin area. Authorities fired nine deputies for the in- cident, including Evans and Kenney.
