Brandon Marshall:
Julio Jones Goes 4th Straight Game WithOut A TD In Loss To Buccaneers
JULIO JONES
TAMPA, Fla. -- Atlanta wide receiver Julio Jones seemed frustrated with his role in scor- ing situations on a day the Fal- cons struggled to score touchdowns.
The Falcons went just 1-for- 3 in the red zone in a 23-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jones had eight catches for 93 yards and surpassed 100 catches for the season, but he did not have a touchdown for the fourth consecutive game.
Jones was asked why fade routes or jump balls were not called his way when such scor- ing opportunities arose.
"I just go out there and just do what I'm told to do," Jones said. "If we're getting those looks, I think they'll call those plays. But I don't know. I don't know what we're getting down there. I don't know what the thinking is as far as if we're going to throw the jump balls or if we're going to run the ball or whatever look we're getting down there. We practice throughout the week throwing jump balls, throwing fades, throwing all these little things. But when the game comes, you never know what's going to come up."
Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, the target of much outside scrutiny, has stood by his play calling. Defenses have schemed to take Jones out of the action. But there have been times when one would figure Jones would get a look rather than players such as Terron Ward (last week) or rookie Justin Hardy (in San Fran- cisco). Then again, Shana- han's gamble to go to seldom-used Nick Williams paid off Sunday with a 6-yard touchdown from Matt Ryan off play-action across the for- mation.

Trash Talk Crossed Line,
But Apology Accepted
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Jets and New York Giants' rivalry got a little heated when Brandon Mar- shall and Cullen Jenkins nearly got into an altercation before halftime.
Marshall said he had to de- fend his wife's honor against the Giants' defensive lineman.
"I think there are some things that are off limits," the Jets wide receiver explained. "I believe in trash talk. Some guys get up for that. But some things are off limits. He made a comment about ... he said, 'My girl.' He didn't know I was married.
"There is not enough money on this Earth for somebody to disrespect my wife. I just try to take it out in between the lines. I don't care about anything at that point."
Marshall had to be re- strained from going after Jenkins late in the second quarter. Marshall, though, repeatedly stressed that Jenk- ins later apologized when the Giants' defensive lineman learned that the Jets receiver is married to Michi Mar- shall.

"The cool thing is, he didn't know I was married, and we talked it through, and he said he didn't mean to do it," Mar- shall said. "He thought maybe I had four or five girls or some- thing. [I'm] happily married, to one woman, my wife, Michi Marshall. And I will fight to the end for her."
Marshall made Jenkins and the Giants pay with his play, as he finished with 12 catches for 131 yards and an overtime-forcing touchdown with 27 seconds left in regula- tion to help lift the Jets to a 23- 20 win over the Giants.
Home Run King Barry
After a week of speculation, the Miami Marlins have hired seven-time MVP Barry Bonds -- who was dogged by accusations of steroid use late in his career -- as the team's hitting coach under recently hired Manager Don Mat- tingly.
Bonds, 51, is baseball's all- time home-run leader with 762. He set a single-season record for homers with 73 in 2001 in his late 30s.
But Bonds did not experi- ence the dip in production suf- fered by so many hitters late in their careers. And in 2011, he was found guilty of obstruc- tion of justice in the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative steroids case.
That conviction was thrown out by a federal appeals court this year.
In 2014, Bonds helped the San Francisco Giants as a guest instructor during train- ing camp and was a private in- structor for the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez, who sat out the 2014 season because of a PED- related suspension.

Just Eight Times, Says

Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton told TMZ Sports that he would have no problem with Bonds on the coaching staff.
"It's all about the bottom line. Controversies aside, the man was a genius," Stanton said. "For that knowledge to watch us play every day and give us back that knowledge is what we need."
Miami was the second-worst team in runs scored in the Na- tional League last season.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Following the Minnesota Vikings' 38-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, a game in which Adrian Peter- son carried just eight times for 18 yards, the running back made a clear declaration of something he hinted at two weeks ago: He needs more car- ries.
Peterson said the Vikings were outcoached "in so many different ways" Sunday, and when asked if he thought eight carries were too few for him, Peterson said, "What do you think?"
" As one of the leaders on the team, seeing how the running game has been all season, you definitely want to be able to go out and establish the run and let things feed off of that," he

said. "To finish with eight car- ries, it's tough. I feel like we're able to sit back, evaluate some things again and get back to what we do."
