Richard Jefferson In Talks With Milwaukee
RICHARD JEFFERSON
Jason Kidd is reportedly looking to bring in an old team- mate to give his Milwaukee Bucks some veteran help.
Chris Mannix of the Ver- tical reported Saturday that the Bucks are one of several teams in talks with veteran forward Richard Jefferson, who was waived by the Atlanta Hawks after his trade from the Cleve- land Cavaliers.
Such a move would reunite Jefferson with Kidd, who played together with the New Jersey Nets from 2001 to 2008. It’s clear evidence that rumors of Jefferson’s retirement were, as reported, very much overblown.

When the NBA released its schedule for the 2017-18 sea- son on Aug. 14, the Cleveland Cavaliers' season opener against the Boston Celtics Tuesday was already intrigu- ing as an Eastern Conference finals rematch.
Eight days later, when Cleveland swapped Kyrie Irv- ing to Boston for Jae Crow- der, Isaiah Thomas, Ante Zizic and a first-round draft pick, the matchup took on an entirely different meaning.
But Cleveland coach Ty- ronn Lue refused to place any added significance on Tues- day's challenge against the Celtics.
"It's one game," Lue said after practice Sunday, scoffing at a reporter's questioning if the Cavs geared up for the Celtics throughout their entire training camp. "I know both teams want to see each other,

but at the end of the day, you don't win a championship by winning or losing the first game. So they're up for the game, they're ready for it, but that's not our main focus is playing Boston."
Perhaps putting a damper on expectations is LeBron James' status. James played in just one of the Cavs' five pre- season games after spraining his left ankle on the second day of camp. Lue said James con- tinued to be limited Sunday.
Kawhi Leonard
Tyronn Lue is saving a spot on his coaching staff for veteran big man Kendrick Perkins should he so desire it.

The Cleveland Cavaliers head coach said this week that Perkins, who was invited to training camp with the team but was ultimately waived in the final round of roster cuts on Saturday, has an offer to join his staff.
“We’ve already talked about that,” said Lue, per Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com. “I

KAWHI LEONARD
San Antonio Spurs swing- man Kawhi Leonard has missed the team’s training camp and preseason with a left thigh injury. It isn’t clear yet when he will be fully re- covered, but we do now know that Leonard will miss some regular season time.
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich told reporters Fri- day that Leonard will not play in the team’s regular sea- son game against Minnesota Wednesday in San Antonio.
“He won’t be available,” Popovich said.
Popovich didn’t have a timetable for Leonard’s re- turn.
“I don’t gauge it,” Popovich told reporters. “He’s still rehabbing and when he’s ready, he’ll be ready. I try not to qualify it.”
Leonard last season aver- aged 25.5 points and 5.8 re- bounds. He was a finalist for the NBA’s MVP award.
To Cleveland Tuesday
Al Horford recalls what it was like the first time he re- turned to Atlanta last season.
He was cool, calm and col- lected ... until he arrived at the arena.
The familiar faces, the rou- tine he had established that was years in the making, keep- ing his emotions intact became a lot tougher.
"That's when it starts get- ting to you," Horford said.
Chances are Boston's Kyrie Irving will experience something similar to that on Tuesday when he returns to Cleveland for the first time after having spent his first NBA seasons playing for the Cavs.
To Irving's credit, he has carried himself in such a way where the return to the only NBA team he has known, has not impacted him emotionally ... yet.
KYRIE IRVING
"Personally, it's just basket- ball," Irving said on Thursday at the annual Shamrock Foun- dation Tip-Off Gala. "Going up there, understanding the legacy that I was a part of, team-wise and individually, just seeing the maturity and the maturation process I went through of coming in as a 19 year old kid and being in an unbelievable city such as Cleveland, leaving with (a championship) ... That's pretty awesome to see that.”
