PEDRO GAMEZ
Law enforcement is cur- rently investigating a police shooting involving a 26-year- old man. The shooting took place Tuesday as members of a local Task Force searched for suspects who had shot at police after a robbery two days earlier.
One man inside a home at 2532 Lake Ellen Circle, in Carrollwood, was fatally shot after he refused to drop his weapon and surrender. Prior to the shooting, officers ar- rived at the home and or- dered everyone to exit the home. Pedro Gamez com- plied and was taken into cus- tody on warrants related to the Save-A-Lot robbery with- out incident. In an effort to secure the home, officers went inside to clear the resi- dence room-by-room. On the second floor, they encoun- tered an adult Hispanic male with a firearm.
SUSPECT VEHICLE
The shooting took place Sunday night at the Save-A-Lot, 150 W. Fletcher Avenue.
  Ohio Man Indicted For Several
Two Task Force Officers, one who is also a Tampa Po- lice Officer, and the other who is a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Deputy, fired multi- ple shots, striking the man. He was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital-North where he was pronounced de- ceased. His identity is not being released at this time, pending next of kin notifica- tion. No officers were injured.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating the multi- agency shooting connected to a robbery of the Save-A-Lot store that took place on Sun- day.
On Tuesday, May 10, 2022, the U. S. Marshals Service Task Force received information leading them to a suspect, 30-year-old Pedro Gamez, believed to have
robbed a Save-A-Lot store on Fletcher Avenue in Tampa. After fleeing the scene, Gamez and three suspects in a vehicle shot at deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office attempting to stop them for a traffic viola- tion.
Task Forces Officer en- countered Rico Dyches, 24, and a female leaving a home around 4 p. m., Tuesday. While attempting to stop their vehicle, Dyches rammed the officers’ vehicles before being stopped one block away. Dyches was taken into custody on active warrants out of Polk County. Both he and the female pas- senger were questioned. They revealed to officers that Pedro Gamez was inside the home from which they had fled. They did not inform police that a second person was also inside the home.
“These were extremely vi- olent individuals with lengthy criminal histories, and it was clear by their actions that they were willing to do what- ever it takes not to get ar- rested. We are thankful that the U. S. Marshals Service worked with our agency to re- lentlessly track down Pedro
Gamez, but our investiga- tion will continue, as we de- finitively work to link three other individuals to the Mother’s Day robbery and shooting,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chro- nister said.
FDLE is conducting an in- vestigation into the shooting. The incident began on
Sunday, May 10th, when two suspects entered the Sav-A- Lot Store, 150 W. Fletcher Avenue. The men fled the store and got into a vehicle with two other people inside, police said.
At approximately 8:32 p.m., two deputies in a marked patrol car heading east saw the suspect’s car speeding with no lights on in the opposite direction.
At the time, the deputies were unaware the suspects had just robbed the Save a Lot, they turned around to conduct a traffic stop, and ac- tivated their emergency lights.
The suspects then shot at the deputies with a shotgun through the back window near the intersection of W. Fletcher Ave., and N. Blvd. The suspects then fled the scene.
