FAMU Is 0-5 After Loss To Savannah State
Blake High Takes Home Heritage Classic Trophy In 21-3 Win
The Yellow Jackets at Howard W. Blake High School took home the 2015 football trophy from the Heritage Football Classic on Friday evening, September 25th. The game was called for nearly an hour due to heavy rain and lightning in the area. When play resumed, the Yellow Jackets won the game, 21- 3. (Photos by Ricky Roberts)
The script on offense was flipped for Florida A&M, but the results were still the same.
FAMU’s offense came alive in the second half, but couldn’t overcome a huge deficit, falling 37-27 to Savannah State – the Rattlers first-ever loss to the Tigers – in Savannah, Georgia.
The Rattlers’ defense, which usually starts strong, faltered early and give up 30 first-half points to Savannah State. The Tigers only scored once in the second half, capitalizing off a FAMU turnover, but the Rat- tlers’ defense kept the Tigers
off the board in the fourth quarter.
Saturday’s game was Savan- nah State’s first win since Sept. 14, 2013. Florida A&M is off to its second-straight 0-5 start.
Florida A&M's offense showed a few flashes of life in the third quarter, but Savan- nah State capitalized on a Kenny Coleman fumble and is still up three scores over the Rattlers.
The Rattlers twice drove the ball inside SSU's five yard line, but came away with field goals both times.

DURHAM, N.C. - Quentin Williams threw for 248 yards and two touchdowns as Bethune-Cookman rallied from a 19-point second half deficit to defeat North Carolina Central, 28-26 in a MEAC game Saturday afternoon in front of a wet O'Kelly-Rid- dick Stadium crowd of 2,024 and an ESPN3 audience.
N.C. Central (1-3 overall, 0-1 MEAC) had a chance to win the game in the final minute after marching 92 yards to the Wildcats 1-yard line, but fresh- man Elliott Miller blocked Nigel Macauley's 18-yard field goal to preserve the Wild- cats' fourth consecutive vic- tory.
It’s also the second time in two years Bethune-Cookman haswonagameonalate blocked field goal. The Wild- cats held off FIU by a score of 14-12 in their 2014 season opener in similar fashion.
After North Carolina Central scored three unanswered touchdowns to turn a 7-6 half- time deficit into a 26-7 lead, Quentin Williams hit Jaw- ill Davis for two touchdown passes, then Michael
Jones scored on a 6-yard run with 10:50 remaining to give Bethune-Cookman (4-1, 2-0 MEAC) a 28-26 advantage.
Anthony Jordan rushed for 62 yards and the Wildcats’ first score – a 5-yard run with 5:28 remaining in a defensive- oriented first half. Ty're Sim- mons set up the touchdown with the first of his two inter- ceptions on the day, giving the Wildcats the ball on the Eagles 8-yard line.
Williams also rushed for 72 yards to complement his 13-of- 18 passing day. Dre'Sean Nelson had four catches for 65 yards, Davis had two touchdowns with 58 yards scattered in, and Jordan hauled in three catches for 17 yards.
