10 Natural Remedies To Help Relieve Headaches And Migraines
You’ll Never Look At Celery The Same After Reading This
1. Water - A major causes of a headache is dehydration.
2. Celery and Cucumber -
Celery and cucumber are high in magnesium and calcium, two crucial components in helping prevent and relieve headaches. They are also natural diuretics, so they can help flush toxins and other built-up waste matter that may trigger a headache.
3. Lavender Oil - Lavender is known for its ability to dilate blood vessels.
4. Ginger - Eating ginger or ginger tea helps reduce inflam- mation. Fresh ginger works best when made into a juice with cel- ery, cucumber and lemon.
5. Cayenne Pepper - Mi- graines are related to blood ves- sel contractions, and eating hot peppers like cayenne will help alleviate pressure in the head region. Mix 1/3 teaspoon of cayenne pepper with 1 cup of water and drink 2-3 times a day if you are a migraine sufferer.
6. Peppermint Oil - Plac- ing the oil on your temples, back of the jaw, and forehead will provide immediate cooling sensation. Make sure you dilute the oil a little bit before using, as it can be quite strong.
7. Sesame Seeds – They are rich in vitamin E, which helps improve circulation and prevents headaches. Vitamin E is also important for women during their cycle, because it helps stabilize estrogen levels and prevents migraines. Sesame seeds are rich in mag- nesium, a mineral with proven headache-preventing abilities.
8. Turmeric - The antioxi- dant properties of curcumin help reduce COX-2, an inflam- matory enzyme that triggers pain and discomfort.
9. Feverfew - Feverfew is a herbal remedy that helps to re- lieve pressure in the head. The best way to take this herbal remedy is in capsule form as the fresh leaves may irritate your mouth.
10. Watermelon - Water- rich, watermelons are a great way to help prevent headaches, given that dehydration is one of the main causes of headaches in the first place. The natural water contained in fruits and vegetables also contain essen- tial minerals, like magnesium, that are key for preventing headaches.
Celery is an excellent source of vitamin K, C, A, B6 and B2, and is high in minerals like molybdenum, folate, potassium, manganese, calcium, copper, phosphorous and magnesium.
Strengthens The Immune System - Celery contains over 2 mg. of vitamin C per stalk, mak- ing it a great way to increase vi- tamin C intake, especially when juiced. Vitamin C acts as an an- tioxidant, helping to eradicate free radicals and prevent mu- tated DNA (which can eventu- ally lead to cancer).
Lowers Blood Pressure - Phthalides in celery help relax muscles around the arteries and allows vessels to dilate. The chemical compound in celery called catecholamine reduces the secretion of stress hor- mones, a contributor of high blood pressure. Celery is also rich in blood pressure regulat- ing minerals like calcium, mag- nesium and potassium.
Keeps Cholesterol Levels Healthy - The phthalides in celery help lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol by increasing bile acid secretion in the liver. An in- creased secretion of bile acids produces higher bile flow, pro- moting digestion and absorp- tion of dietary fat and cholesterol.
Cancer Fighter - Celery contains at least 8 anti-cancer compounds that help fight against many forms of cancer. Acetylenics and phenolic acids,
two major anti-cancer com- pounds in celery help terminate cancer cell growth. Another compound called “coumarin,” helps decrease mutations in normal cells, which could cause cells to become cancerous.
All-Natural Diuretic - The perfect balance of potassium and sodium in celery makes it an excellent natural diuretic. This is great for the kidneys, be- cause it helps flush out excess toxins and fluid from the body, meaning clearer skin, and less excess water weight.
Anti-Inflammatory - With more than 20 anti-inflamma- tory compounds, celery is quite the vegetable to help fight chronic aches and pains. The most powerful of these com- pounds, apigenin, helps lower oxidative stress and prevents the expression of several inflam- matory factors like COX-2 in- hibitors. Luteolin in celery also helps prevent excess production of TNF-x which normally pro- motes inflammation and tissue destruction in rheumatic/im- mune mediated diseases.
Weight Loss Aid - As a di- uretic, celery works by immedi-
ately relieving excess water weight from the body. It is also great for those suffering from edema (excess fluid build-up).
A large majority of the popu- lation suffers from some form of water retention due to high sodium intake. You can hold up to 10-15 pounds of excess water weight. Celery is also naturally high in fibre and helps prevent you from over-eating bad foods.
Natural Toothbrush - Cel- ery acts as a natural toothbrush and is a great weapon against any bad bacteria in your mouth that contribute to gum disease, cavities, and plaque build-up. Celery also takes a longer time to chew, which means more nat- ural saliva production to help keep cavities away.
Prevents Calcium De- posits - Those suffering from aortic stenosis or people with high acidity (due to calcification and degenerative bones and joints) will largely benefit from the calcium-deposit dissolving abilities of celery. Celery works by eliminating calcium deposits before they even begin to accu- mulate.
Aids Digestion - The high water and insoluble fibre con- tent in celery makes it a great way to aid in the production of healthy bowel movements. Cel- ery is also a natural prebiotic, which helps promote the growth and proliferation of beneficial bacteria in your gut, keeping bloating at bay.
