Urban League Of Hillsborough County At Work Helping Children

The National Urban League has been empowering com- munities and changing live since 1910. The historic civil rights organization is dedi- cated to economic empower- ment to elevate the standard of living in Black communi- ties.
Today, the National Urban League has 90 affiliates serv- ing 300 communities, in 37 states and the District of Co- lumbia, providing direct serv- ices that impact and improve the lives of more than 2 mil- lion people nationwide.
The Urban League of Hills- borough County (UHLC) ran into several issues in the early 2000s and was forced to close its doors. The local branch of

Reading is a crucial step to- ward academic comprehen- sion, and many believe that reading assists in defining the horizon of one’s world.
The ULHC was given some targeted funds to purchase books for students. The school’s principal, Mrs. Monica Barber requested that the ULHC assist her stu- dents by purchasing some books to assist the students with math. The ULHC do- nated the requested numbers and titled books to each Booker T. Washington Ele- mentary School classroom.
The ULHC supports read- ing as the first step to the achievement of economic eq- uity.

approved affiliate of the na- tional organization.
The ULHC has five pillars of operation and has designed programs for the improve-
ment for the Black and other minority communities. One of the pillars is education. To as- sist with this goal the ULHC has forged a relationship with

Every back to school and Christmas Get It Straight Foundation helps kids from single family homes with footwear.
