 BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
Seshmi Hayes recently joined the staff of a Sarasota television station.
A current resident of the Bay Area, Seshmi holds the title of Weekend Morning An- chor / Reporter at ABC7 WWSB, Sarasota.
The graduate of Sickles High School has a B. A. de- gree in Mass Media from Florida State University, and a minor in Journalism from FAMU’s School of Journal- ism.
Seshmi’s career in news has taken her from Los Ange- les, CA, New York, Orlando and Tallahassee and now in the Bay Area.
“It is a huge honor for me to be the new Morning An- chor of “Good Morning Sun- coast Weekends,” and

Reporter at ABC7 in Sarasota. GMS Weekends is a brand new show for the station, so I’m incredibly blessed to be bringing the residents of Sarasota and Manatee Coun- ties news on the weekends for the very first time.
“Even though I grew up in Tampa, I didn’t get to the

Sarasota area much then, but I’m quickly learning the Sun- coast is a unique market. The difference in economic equal- ity for the residents here is easy to see. And I’ve been told many times that the predom- inantly Black areas of town, like Newtown, feel the news
has neglected them, so I’m looking forward to telling more of their stories and restoring the trust in that re- lationship.
“Being the only Black News Anchor there, I always recognize the need to repre- sent our community well. I am so thankful my bosses gave me the opportunity over the holidays, to anchor all of our evening shows and solo- anchor four hours of news each night for three days straight. That was a major milestone for me, anchoring an evening news show for the first time, let alone for four hours! So I’m incredibly thankful for a wonderful, sup- portive, husband who does an absolutely amazing job with the kids, so I never have to worry!”
She added, “If you’re ever in the Suncoast area you can
watch Good Morning Sun- coast Weekends on ABC7 WWSB from 6-8 a. m., every Saturday and Sunday morn- ing. You can also watch on- line via www.MySuncoast. com and click on the LIVE tab.”
Seshmi is the daughter of Darrell and Lenore Robertson, and James and Gwendolyn Hayes. Her husband is Erjaam Hayes, and they are the parents to 2 children: Joshua (3) and Jordyn (2).
The family attends Tampa's new Courageous Church, led by Bishop T. D. Jakes' former Young Adult pastor, Onterio Green.
When asked about hob- bies, she said, “Taking the kids to see new things like museums, parks, outdoor at- tractions, and going to Disney whenever we can!”
