Breaking Down Russell Wilson's Mega-Contract Extension With the Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks quarter- back Russell Wilson (3).
The 12th Man awoke Friday morning with good news out of the Seattle Seahawks: quarter- back Russell Wilson will be staying with the team after reaching a 4-year, $87.6 mil- lion extension. The deal is sig- nificant, not only for Wilson and the Seahawks, but sets a number of issues into play as it pertains to market value and structure for players in the NFL going forward. Here’s how it all breaks down:
Where Does The Deal Rate In Terms Of Other Quarterback Contracts?
Based on average annual value (AAV) which is simply the total dollars divided by years, Wilson’s deal ranks him as the second-highest paid quarter- back in the NFL with an AAV of $21.9 million. That puts him just $100,000 below Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers who has an AAV of $22 million.
Is Wilson Going To Get More Than $21.9 Million For the Upcoming Season?
While details of pay per sea- son has not been released, Wil- son will be hauling in a lot more than $21.9 million this year. That’s because the deal in- cludes a $31 million signing bonus. Can you say, “Cha- ching”?
What About Guaranteed Money In the Deal?
A core negotiating point was just how much guaranteed money would be in the deal, and it’s here that Wilson truly scored. Out of the $87.6 mil- lion, $60 million, or 68.4 per- cent of the total, is guaranteed.

Last Wednesday, a Tampa athlete committed to attend college. The young man gradu- ated in June.
Farron Rainford is no stranger to the world of sports. He loves football, but estab- lished himself as a wrestler worthy of recognition. Wrestling in the 195 pound class this year, Rainford cap- tured the #1 position in the District, County, and Confer- ence.
Now, he is ready to demon- strate his prowess in the sport on a college level. Later this month, Rainford will begin classes at Hannibal-LeGrange University, in Hannibal, Mis- souri. He plans to become a Registered Nurse.
A Tampa native, Rainford attended the public schools of Hillsborough County. He grad- uated from Strawberry Crest High School, in June.
Rainford is the son of the late Allon Rainford and Ms. Siberia Swain. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Shelia Reed) Pal- more, and the great grandson of the late Mrs. Essie Mae Reed.
Ms. Swain said her son has a close relationship with his uncle, Walter McFadden, III, who stepped in upon the death of his father. Rainford also has two sisters.
A member of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Rainford, in addition to sports, the young man enjoys singing, his mother said.
DETROIT — Toronto has ac- quired All-Star left-hander David Price from the Detroit Tigers, the second major move in less than a week by the Blue Jays as they chase their first postseason appearance since 1993.
After acquiring slugging shortstop Troy Tulowitzki from Colorado earlier in the week, the Blue Jays tried to shore up their rotation by adding the top remaining starting pitcher on the market. Johnny Cueto was traded from Cincinnati to Kansas City, and Cole Hamels went from Philadelphia to Texas.
The Blue Jays sent left-han- ders Daniel Norris, Matt Boyd and Jairo Labourt to the Tigers in the deal, which

Jameis Winston Creates A Buzz At First Buccaneers Training Camp
INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana Pacers newcomer Jordan Hill was arrested near Atlanta on charges of reckless driving and speeding after police clocked his car going 107 mph in a 65 mph zone.
According to the police re- port, Hill was taken into cus- tody Tuesday afternoon. A police officer from Alpharetta, Georgia, wrote that Hill ex- plained he was "in a hurry."
Pacers President Larry Bird said the team was aware of the charges and did not con- done what happened, adding that team officials would ad- dress the matter with Hill.

million deal with the Pacers on July 14. Last season, Hill av- eraged 12.0 points and 7.9 re- bounds for the Los Angeles Lakers.
It was the biggest opening day for Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp that anyone could remember, with fans packing the bleachers at One Buc Place to watch practice and cramming themselves against red plastic barricades in hopes of securing an autograph.
There was little question as to why this camp, for a team coming off a 2-14 season, was such a draw — and it wasn’t for the offensive line play.
"They want to see us win. But I think they were here to see Winston, you know?" right tackle Demar Dotson told re- porters with a laugh. "We know how it is. They came to see Winston."
Yet Dotson, a seventh-year player who is now the Bucs’ longest-tenured, understands the excitement. He’s eager to stop thinking and talking about the Bucs’ dreadful 2014 and the 2-14 record that put them in position to land Jameis Win- ston with the No. 1 overall pick, and he knows fans are too.
"We have to put last year be- hind us. There’s nothing we can do about it, so every guy, we get a fresh start; 2015 is a new team," Dotson said.
That fresh start begins with Winston, who late last week was named the team’s starting quarterback. It was a move meant to give Winston confi- dence heading into his first

Though the Bucs practiced on Saturday on the turf field at the University of South Florida, when torrential rains chased them away from their home field, Sunday’s 21⁄2 hour prac- tice marked his public debut, the first chance for fans to see the No. 1 pick in action.
"It definitely has a buzz, and no one is talking about anything other than Winston," said Matt Algeri, a season-ticket holder since 2004 who donned black and red face paint and patrolled Sunday’s practice in his red jersey he personalized with the name "BucNutz."
After months of hype and speculation, Algeri was most eager to finally get to make his own judgments about Win- ston.
