Polk County Sheriff’s Office detectives have identified and arrested three Alabama men in connection with a murder in Polk City. The murder took place on January 3rd.
All three men are currently in the Mobile County Metro Jail. They will be extradited to Polk County.
Kenley Campbell, 22, and Darril Lamar Rankin, Jr., 22, and Gerjuan Demarcus Jackson, 18, are residents of Mobile, Alabama.
All three were charged with: first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, and armed burglary with assault and bat- tery.
They were also charged with 13 counts of grand theft of a firearm, robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon, burglary of a conveyance, and grand theft of a motor vehicle.
According to police, the trio drove from Mobile, Alabama to the residence of William Reiss. Jackson allegedly fired shots at William Reiss and his roommate, Kenneth Maier.
Reiss was killed and Maier is still in critical, but stable con- dition.
According to reports, Jack- son met William Reiss while conducting a hurricane damage estimate in 2017, and purchased two handguns from Reiss. De- tectives located an official FEMA contractor identification for Jackson during the investi- gation.
The trio came back to Florida on January 3rd to visit Reiss.
Jackson went inside while Campbell and Rankin stayed in the car. Jackson allegedly admitted he fired several shots at Reiss and Maier.
Jackson came out of the residence at which time Camp- bell and Rankin assisted with loading the victim’s firearm col- lection and flat screen television into Campbell’s trunk and the victim’s Dodge pick-up truck.
When they arrived in Ala- bama, Jackson took the vic- tim’s truck to a wooded area and set the pick-up truck on fire.
During the investigation de- tectives found firearms, an ex- tensive amount of ammunition, electronic devices, and clothing believed to be worn by the sus- pects.
Three of the guns were from Reiss’ gun collection.
Jackson told police the stolen property, including the guns and television, had been sold on “the streets” except for the 3 guns that were recovered. Jackson estimated that a total of 20 to 25 guns were stolen.
Additional charges may be filed as the investigation contin- ues, police said.
