A federal jury convicted a 28-year-0ld Tampa man of several charges in connection with an armed robbery. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 19, 2015.
According to court docu- ments, Shamorcus Bran- don Nesbitt was convicted by a federal jury of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, interference with commerce by robbery, carry- ing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Nesbitt was indicted on June 19, 2014.
SHAMORCUS B. NESBITT
According to the evidence presented at the trial, Nesbitt and England Alexander Wilson were identified by law enforcement in connection
with several robberies in the Tampa Bay Area. On May 20, 20143, Nesbitt and Wilson robbed a Little Caesar’s Pizza Restaurant in Tampa.
Law enforcement gathered information at the scene which led them to their identi- ties. They also recovered cloth- ing, gloves, and the firearm used in that robbery. Addi- tional investigation revealed that the DNA of both Nesbitt and Wilson was found on the gloves used in the robbery.
Nesbitt is facing a maxi- mum of 37 years in prison. His sentencing date has been scheduled for May 19, 2015.
Man Convicted Of Gun Charges And Tampering With Witness
A 33-year-old man was found guilty of criminal charges last week in federal court. He is facing a possible life sentence.
According to court docu- ments, Demetrius Sharron Davis, of St. Petersburg, was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, tampering with a witness, and obstruction of justice.
Davis was indicted for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition on May 13, 2014. A superseding indictment was returned on October 21, 2014, charging him with tampering with a wit- ness and obstruction of justice.
According to testimony and evidence presented at the trial, on October 27, 2013, Davis and the mother of his children
DEMETRIUS S. DAVIS
became engaged in an alterca- tion.
During the altercation, Davis reportedly told her that “the kids are about to see you in a body bag” and “the kids won’t have a mother or a fa- ther.” At the time the threats were made, Davis was al- legedly pointing a firearm at
the woman as she held their 4- year-old daughter in her lap.
Davis had previously been convicted of a felony and was prohibited from possession a firearm or ammunition under federal law.
Officials said Davis’ 10- year-old daughter had also witnessed the threat. As his October 2014 court date ap- proached, Davis called his daughter and reportedly at- tempted to prevent her from testifying against him by telling her, ‘you don’t need to get on the stand ‘cause that’ll make daddy go to jail for a long time.’
Investigators said he also made additional attempts to persuade the child not to tes- tify against him. His sentenc- ing date has been set for May 4, 2015.
