   Artist, Activist Common To Address FAMU Spring Commencement Graduates

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Hip-hop recording artist, actor and activist Common, Florida A&M University (FAMU) alum and former Tallahassee Mayor, Andrew Gillum and veteran music industry attorney, Nicole Wyskoarko will be the speakers for the FAMU Spring Commencement cere- monies.
More than 1,200 students are expected to be awarded degrees during the three cer- emonies.
Common, who studied business administration at FAMU, is scheduled to ad- dress College of Science and Technology, College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humani- ties and School of the Envi- ronment graduates on Saturday, May 4, at the 9 a. m., commencement cere- mony in the Alfred Lawson, Jr. Multipurpose Center and Teaching Gymnasium.
The Emmy and Grammy winning artist is known for his “conscious rap” and his roles in such films as “Selma,” “Barbershop,” “John Wick 2,” the animated Warner Bros’ “Smallfoot,” and “The Hate U Give.”
Gillum is scheduled to speak to graduates at the 6 p. m., ceremony on Friday, May 3. Wyskoarko will address graduates at the 2 p. m., cer- emony on Saturday, May 4.

In 2003, the former Stu- dent Government Association president was still a political science student at FAMU when he was elected to the Tallahassee City Commission at age 23, making him the youngest commissioner in the city’s history. He served as a city commissioner until 2014, when he was elected mayor. A CNN political com- mentator, Gillum launched the “Bring It Home Florida” voter registration initiative in March.
Wyskoarko is executive vice president of urban oper- ations for Interscope Records in Santa Monica, Calif. Prior to joining Interscope, the Brooklyn Law School gradu- ate was a partner with Car- roll, Guido & Groffman, LLP. The Los Angeles native has also served as senior vice president at Universal Music Group and worked with East Coast labels (Island, Def Jam, and Republic) and artists, such as Kanye West, Alessia Cara and Justin Bieber.
Wyskoarko will address graduates from the FAMU- FSU College of Engineering, College of Law, College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceuti- cal Sciences, the School Ar- chitecture and Engineering Technology and the School of Nursing.
Hennessy Makes $10 Million Available For Graduate-Level Scholarships At HBCUs
 Hennessy, the Cognac, recently announced that it has committed $10 million to fund gradu- ate scholarships at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The Hennessy Fellows, as the scholarship program will be called, is de- signed to create a “diverse pipeline of highly qual- ified talent and flood the market with young leaders from HBCUs who are fully prepared to take on leadership roles at major organizations,” the company wrote in an announcement.
Hennessy is funding the new fellowship pro- gram at $1 million a year over the next 10 years through the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, which supports public HBCUs.
The Hennessy Fellows Program will select ten high-achieving, high-potential students per year and offer grants of up to $20,000 per year, a $10,000 annual stipend, 1:1 executive coaching, corporate development experiences, including training forums and networking to enhance the exchange of ideas and provide direct exposure to the inter-relatedness of corporate, social and eco- nomic systems.
The program is open to students enrolled at accredited HBCU or PBI graduate programs.

Hennessy Fellows will accept applications through May 5, 2019. The 10 selected fel- lows will be announced in June to receive bene- fits ahead of the Fall 2019 term.
