BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Approaching the age of 65, Joe Robinson has gained much experience in his life. As a consulting engineer, he has broadened his knowledge working in the governmental, public, and private sectors.
Popular in the commu- nity, Robinson has served as the watchdog of the commu- nity. Through the years, he has been outspoken about many situations in which the rules have not been followed.
He has sought a seat on the City Council in the past. When asked why he is run- ning now, Robinson said, “Now is the time. I thought about it, I prayed about it, and God answered my prayers. I have listened to countless people who are en- couraging me to run.
“These are everyday peo- ple who feel the time for a change is long overdue. And,
JOE ROBINSON
I feel that I am young enough to understand the demo- graphics of this city and its needs. Yet, I have the wisdom to make decisions that will be good for everyone. And, that is why I am running in an at- large race.
“Every community has its own specific issues. But, growth, traffic, affordable housing and economic devel- opment are things that are needed everywhere.
“I have a lot of knowledge
and experience in some areas, and in the areas I’m not famil- iar with, I know how to ask the right people. The time for talking is gone. The time for action is now!”
Robinson’s campaign slogan is “Moving Tampa Forward.”
A Tampa native, Robin- son graduated 5th in his class with a BSME Degree in 1977 from the University of Iowa. After college, he returned to Tampa and launched his ca- reer as a Professional Engi- neer.
Robinson is currently the President and CEO of RHC & Associates, Inc., a Consulting Engineering firm. He is a charter member of the NSBE, the National Society of Black Engineers, founded in 1975. He is also Second Vice President of the Hillsborough County Branch NAACP, and a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
The Hillsborough County Chapter of The Charmettes, Inc., is accept- ing applications from girls between the ages of 13 and 17 years old, who would like to be a part of the chap- ter’s semi-annual “Junior Debutante Coronation.” The event will be held in the spring. Parental per- mission is required.
The Charmettes have selected the Junior Debu- tante Coronation as a vehi- cle to introduce young girls into society and the com- munity. Prior to the coro- nation, the girls will participate in etiquette classes, field trips, commu- nity projects, and attend some social events, such as the “Miss Teenage Tampa Pageant.”
The girls will have the opportunity of meeting and making new friends, reuniting with others, and involving themselves in fun, healthy, and friendly competition.
The winner of the contest will be crowned “Miss Junior Deb, 2019-2021,” and will represent the chapter for the next two years. In addition to the crown, she will receive a monetary award
and other gifts.
