ODELL ‘PAT’ MITCHELL (Photo by Fred Bellet) ...Some of his art in the background
Bay Area Artist To Display Works At Carrollwood Cultural Center
Most artists, if not all, want their artwork to be seen.
Artist Odell "Pat" Mitchell, will have his au- dience. Mitchell's water- color paintings and illustrations will be on dis- play as part of a group show at the Carrollwood Cultural Center, 4537 Lowell Road, with an opening reception onJune3rd,5p.m.to8p.
m. The show will run through July and is free to the public.
Mitchell's work had been in the public eye quite often through the years as a former art teacher and award-winning illustrator and graphic artist. He was a senior editor at several news organizations, including the Fort Myers News-Press, Gannett News Service and
The Tampa Tribune. He is a graduate of Middleton High School and Bethune-Cook- man University in Daytona Beach.
“I've been involved in art, literally all my life," he said. "The talent is a blessing and something I've never taken for granted. I've been fortunate to have worked in two professions that I thor- oughly enjoyed --- as an ed-
ucator and as a journalist. I honestly felt that both jobs were in the service of the pub- lic."
Mitchell's latest pieces are personal, he says. “The images I create are my uncompro- mised interpretations. The sto-
ries that they tell are my stories --- the people I know, my com- munity and events as I see them. Hopefully, my art will resonate with the viewers.”
Mitchell is encouraging the community to come out and enjoy the art.
