Young Fighter Wants To Be Tampa’s First World Champion
BY LEON B. CREWS Sentinel Staff Writer
Cornelius “Dynamite” Dennard knows what he wants out of boxing. Having won junior championships and AAU titles, he now has his sights set on competing in the Junior Olympic Games.
“As soon as I’m old enough, I want t box in the Olympic Games, then go on to be a great professional.
“A lot of great fighters have trained and fought in Tampa, but none of them are from Tampa. I want to be Tampa’s first world champion.”
If you ask Dynamite’s uncle, Combo Broadnax, there’s no reason his nephew won’t be successful.
“He’s easy to train, loves to compete, and has a deep pas- sion for winning.
“When it comes to self con- fidence, Dynamite has plenty and then some. He’s not intimidated by anyone or anything, and outside of the ring, he’s a great kid and stu- dent.”
Beginning May 21st and running through the 23rd, Dy- namite will be competing in the Junior Olympic Regionals in Georgia.
“Dynamite is determined to be the representative of the United States in the Junior Olympics and later on the ac- tual Olympic Games.
“Dynamite has a drive in- side of him that just won’t allow him to back down from a challenge. He always knows how to make the best of a bad situation, and at a young age he’s already able to dissect his opponents and prey on their weaknesses.”
