7 Black Quarterbacks Will Be Starting This Season
Bucs’ Jamel Dean Wins Starting Cornerback Job

RUSSELL WILSON
JAMEIS WINSTON

JALEN HURTS
Tampa Bucs cornerback Jamel Dean won the start- ing cornerback job the way he does the football.
The most physically im- posing players at his position, with great length and 4.3 speed in the 40-yard dash, he aggressively went after the position held by Sean Mur- phy-Bunting.
“I can just speak on this in training camp. He’s been at- tacking the ball,” linebacker Devin White said of Dean, the fourth-year pro from Auburn. “He was always a

player who was going to be in position. He wasn’t going after the ball but he wasn’t going to get beat. He was that type of player.
As the 2022-23 NFL sea- son starts this week, here’s a look into those Black signal callers who’ll be taking the field around the league.
We begin our rankings in Kansas City, where Patrick Mahomes is still in charge of the league’s most dynamic offense. He’s led the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowls, winning one and losing one.
After signing a 5 year- $243 million with the Denver Broncos, Russell Wilson will be paired with a no. 1 de- fense that might be a trip to the Super Bowl.
Jameis Winston – Gets his shot at redemption in New Orleans. The former Heisman winner and NFL TD passes leader was very good last year before he was

hurt. The Saints offense is deadly with the return of Michael Thomas, Jarvis Landry and Alvin Ka- mara. The Saints defense is stellar as No. 1 and adding Tyrann Mathieu. The Saints defense will be a handful or more for Tom Brady and the injured offen- sive line of Tampa Bay.
LaMar Jackson is the dynamic force who makes the Baltimore Ravens go. Last season he finally se- cured his first playoff win after two embarrassing home playoff losses his first two seasons. Jackson is currently acting as his own agent and he will be playing without a long term contract. He makes $23M this year under his rookie contract.
Dak Prescott returns without Amari Cooper. This will be interesting. The Cowboys lost a few key play- ers on offense and defense. Prescott made $75M last year under his new contract.
Kyler Murray – The electric Murray needs to take that next step, but he’s being somewhat hindered by the unproven and very over- rated head coach Kliff Kingsbury. This is a big year for Murray who signed a huge contract, 5 year- $230M. If he can stay healthy, the Cardinals will make it to the playoffs.
Jalen Hurts – Hurts is a consumate pro and showed some promise by taking the Eagles to the playoffs. This season will be a test for Hurt to see if the Eagles will pay him the super max con- tract.
The anticipation for a new season finally will end when the reigning Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams host the Buffalo Bills on Thursday in the 2022 NFL Kickoff Game. Los Angeles concluded a wildly entertain- ing 2021 postseason by de- feating Cincinnati in Super Bowl LVI for the second championship in franchise history.
Kickoff from SoFi Sta- dium is set for 8:20 p.m. ET. Buffalo is a 2.5-point favorite

   Brian Robinson Shot
 Multiple Times In Robbery
Attempt Against Him
Commanders rookie run- ning back Brian Robinson was shot multiple times in a robbery attempt, JP Finlay of NBCSportsWash- ington.com reports.
Finlay reports it’s non- life threatening, and Robin- son is in stable condition.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Media adds that at least two bullets struck Robinson in the lower body.
Robinson, 23, appeared to be leading the running back competition with Anto- nio Gibson. He did not play in Saturday night’s preseason loss to the Ravens.
In the first two preseason
BRIAN ROBINSON games, Robinson ran 14
times for 57 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 15 yards.
The Commanders made him a third-round draft choice out of Alabama, where he spent five seasons.
