The Original Graduates Of FAMU College Of Law Will Be Honored Friday
  BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
Former Senator Arthenia Joyner (3rd from left) is among those to be honored.
The 57 original gradu- ates of the FAMU College of Law will be honored on Fri- day, Sept. 9, 2022, when a plaque is unveiled in their honor,at2p.m.onthe campus in Tallahassee.
This event coincides with the law school’s 20th an- niversary in Orlando and is part of the “Rattlers For Justice Day” at FAMU.
FAMU President, Dr. Larry Robinson said the graduates have set “extraor- dinary examples for genera-
tions to follow. This plaque will memorialize our origi- nal graduates and inspire current students...”
Among the graduates are former judges, former U. S. Congressman, former Florida Secretary of State, former State Senator, and other dignitaries. Former State Senator Arthenia Joyner, who will be at- tending the event, is one of the last surviving original graduates.
She said, “this plaque serves as a historic testa- ment to the early legal trail- blazers who opened the door to so many Blacks to the rich rewards of the prac- tice of law.
“I have spent the last 53 years practicing law and
serving the public as an elected official. These re- wards come courtesy of the law professors who encour- aged me to utilize my legal training to continue my quest for justice and equal- ity for Black people. As one of the 6 individuals in that last graduating class of 1968, I am forever grateful,” Senator Joyner con- cluded. Former St. Pete res- ident C. Bette Wimbish was also among the origi- nals.
FAMU’s law school is one of 6 HBCU programs that was opened, shut down and reopened. Former Gov. Jeb Bush signed legisla- tion in 2000 authorizing a law school at FAMU, which opened in Orlando in 2002.
  Riots In the Street? Not!
So, does Senator Lindsey Graham really think that by saying, “if Trump is indicted, there will be rioting in the streets” is going to sway the justice system to let Trump get away with crimes?
Former President Trump is accused of lying on bank loan applications, lying to IRS, inciting a riot to over- throw the United States government, mishandling of mega top-secret files, and other charges that may be brought against him. Besides, Graham should worry about being charged with violation of Georgia’s election laws. Indeed, Graham should ask Black rioters about their experience with law enforcement’s use of tasers, ba- tons, pepper spray, tear gas, sound cannons, guns, rub- ber bullets, and real bullets.
We doubt if the military and nationwide law enforce- ment agencies will spare any tactic, technique, or weapon in quelling nationwide rebellions. No doubt, the January 6, 2021, attack on the nation’s Capitol prepared the mili- tary and law enforcement agencies for similar attempts in other parts of the country. In fact, Graham should shut his mouth before he is charged with inciting a riot. In spite of blind adoration and God-like worship of Trump, he is no God, and the police and military use real bullets.
Trump supporters have evolved to the level of a cult devoid of intelligence, common sense, rational thinking, respect for the nation’s constitution, and fraud (false electoral college submissions). Consequently, they act like three-year-old children having temper tantrums be- cause they can’t have their way. They haven’t thought about the fact that other Republicans won their 2020 elections for Congress, state legislatures, county, and city elections. Subjecting Supervisors of Elections (many of whom are Republicans) across the country to be parties to the conspiracy.
We suggest Lindsey Graham concentrate on staying out of prison if he continues to oppose responding to the Georgia grand jury subpoena, instead of suggesting peo- ple riot in the streets. The “rule of law’’ must be enforced against Trump in the same manner it was enforced for criminals and rioters in the past.
Hopefully, the same 81,283,098 voters will send Trump on a long vacation in 2023 and South Carolina voters will send Graham on a long vacation in 2025. Amen.
