Jackson State received one less first place vote than defend- ing Celebration Bowl champion South Carolina State, but out- paced the Bulldogs by two points and top the BOXTOROW HBCU Preseason Media Poll.
Defending champion Bowie State received three first place votes and begin the 2022 season in the No. 4 spot.
Florida A&M begins the sea- son No. 3, while defending SIAC champion Albany State rounds out the top five. Southern and North Carolina A&T, who did not finish in the top 10 of the final poll of 2021, begin the sea- son at No. 9 and No. 10, respec- tively.
The BOXTOROW Media Poll is administered by FROM THE PRESS BOX TO PRESS ROW and in its 16th year, is voted on by media members around the country who cover HBCU football.
The top 10 teams are: Jack- son State, South Carolina State, Florida A&M Univ., Bowie State, Albany State, Alabama A&M, Prairie View A&M, Alcorn State, Southern Univ., and North Car- olina A&T rounds out the list.
Also receiving votes were: Savannah State, Fayetteville State, North Carolina Central, Norfolk State, Tennessee State, Alabama State, Langston, Gram- bling, Kentucky Stat and Bene- dict.
