Sharp With His New
Group Of Receivers
The 2022 season is offi- cially off and running for the New Orleans Saints after they held their first practice ses- sion of training camp Wednesday.
New coach Dennis Allen led the team through a rela- tively short practice, covering roughly 90 minutes on the outdoor fields at the team’s Airline Drive practice facility. Here were the highlights.
The Saints had near 100% attendance for the first day of training camp, with the only exceptions being defensive ends Marcus Davenport (PUP list) and Tanoh Kpas- sagnon (illness), receiver Rashid Shaheed (non-foot- ball injury list), safety Tyrann Mathieu (excused absence) and linebacker Pete Werner.
Werner was present for practice, but he was working off to the side with an undis- closed injury. Allen declined to offer any specifics on Werner’s injury after prac- tice, but the coach did say he’s hopeful Werner would not miss much time.
Running back Devine Ozigbo briefly left practice after colliding with linebacker Andrew Dowell during

team drills, but he returned to make a nice catch and run. Several players who did not participate in the Saints’ or- ganized team activities and minicamp this offseason were out on the practice field Wednesday, including Taysom Hill, Marcus Maye and Payton Turner. Michael Thomas was out there. The Saints star re- ceiver did not participate in full team drills, but he other- wise went through the same
practice as his teammates.
Buccaneers Get Encouraging Leonard Fournette
Weight Update
CROSSWORD PUZZLE ANSWERS
LEONARD FOURNETTE
Any worries about Leonard Fournette’s weight gain this offseason can reportedly be put to rest for now.
Buccaneers reporter Rick Stroud shared last week that the former first-round pick had supposedly ballooned to around 260 pounds. That was concern- ing given that Tampa Bay listed Fournette at 228 pounds last season.
But Fournette seems to have gotten his weight under control. According to Pro Foot- ball Focus’ Doug Kyed, Four- nette weighed in at 245 pounds after reporting to camp on Tuesday.
