Warrant Issued For Driver In
Jefferson Basketball Coach, Team Honored
Jefferson Boy’s Basket- ball coach, Eric Hayes.
During a banquet at the Straz Center Wednesday night by the Tampa Bay Basketball Association, the city’s best high school basketball teams and coaches were honored.
Jefferson High School head boy’s basketball coach, Eric Hayes, was named All West- ern Conference Coach of the Year in the American Division. His team was also honored as Team of the Year.
Hayes successfully took his team to the state tournament, losing to Norland of Miami in the 6A State Semi-Final. The Dragons finished the season with a 27-5 record.
A pair of Jefferson players also were honored, with Mau- rice Moore getting All-West- ern Conference First Team honors, and Vernon Jackson getting second team honors.

Deadly Hit And Run Accident
Hosting 3rd Annual Bringing Life To Tampa Bay

The Tampa Police Depart- ment has identified and issued an arrest warrant for a man al- legedly involved in a deadly hit and run accident last weekend. The accident took place on Sunday, March 22nd, at the in- tersection of N. 40th Street and E. Deleuil Avenue.
According to police, Her- bert M. James, 25, was driv- ing his vehicle on N. 40th Street shortly after 3 a.m. James was at the intersection of N. 40th Street and E. Deleuil Av- enue when his vehicle was struck by a black Dodge Charger.
After the accident, the driver of the Charger ran from the scene on foot, leaving the car behind.
James, who was report- edly not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, died at the scene, police said.
A Tampa native, James attended the public schools of Hillsborough County. After he earned his GED, he became employed as a member of the International Longshoremen’s Association. He was working at the Port of Manatee at the time of his death.
He was the son of William James and the late Mrs. Versey James. He is the fa- ther of two young sons and has 13 surviving brothers and sis- ters, among other relatives and friends.
James enjoyed spending time with his family and riding his dirt bike, a family member said.
Funeral services for James were incomplete at press time. Harmon’s Funeral Home is in charge of handling arrangements.

REO THOMAS NANCE
Warrant Issued
Police have identified the driver of the hit and run vehi- cle as 30-year-old Reo Thomas Nance, of Tampa. He is wanted on the charges as leaving the scene of an acci- dent with death and grand theft auto. Nance is also wanted for violation of proba- tion on an aggravated battery charge, police said.
In a news release, police warned that Nance had re- portedly made statements that he is not going back to jail and anyone who may know his whereabouts is asked to con- tact Tampa Police Depart- ment.
Police caution anyone with information pertaining to Nance’s whereabouts to con- tact them. “Please do not try to apprehend the suspect as he is considered dangerous,” they said in a press release.

Blue Moon 211, Inc. ac- companied several suicide prevention organizations from across the state to the State Capitol in Tallahassee. Their purpose was to ask state legislators to support school prevention resources in grades k-12 and the Mental Health First Aid for First Re- sponders.
“This training will ensure more educators and First Re- sponders can recognize when someone is in crisis and get them help,” Ms. Vanessa Johnson explained.
Blue Moon 211 also pre- sented to the state officials in- creasing education on prevention in the African American communities.
In lieu of their trip to the Capitol, Blue Moon 211, Inc. has launched a nationwide campaign, “No Peace, No Power.”
