GRECHAM TOLIVER
On Monday, the Florida Highway Patrol arrested two women after they allegedly rammed a Florida Highway Patrol’s vehicle and hit sev- eral other vehicles during a chase. The incident took place shortly before 1:30 p. m., Monday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, troopers lo- cated a 2020 Nissan Altima traveling westbound on In- terstate 4 in Hillsborough County that had been in- volved in a Lakeland felony theft case. As the vehicle continued northbound on Interstate 75, Troopers at- tempted a traffic stop of the vehicle near the 262 Mile- post.
The vehicle failed to stop and instead fled northbound on Interstate 75 until exiting onto westbound Fowler Av- enue. Continuing westbound on Fowler Avenue, the Nis- san collided with a 2017 Jeep Wrangler at the inter- section of Gillette Street. The Nissan continued west-
bound to the intersection of 56th Street and collided with three other vehicles, a Nis- san pickup, a Ford Crown Victoria and a Kia sedan, be- fore coming to final rest.
After the second colli- sion, three women fled the scene of the crash and en- tered a 2004 Dodge Du- rango occupied by a man and woman. The Durango then traveled westbound on Fowler Avenue before other FHP Troopers attempted a traffic stop of this vehicle, which turned northbound onto 50th Street. Upon stop- ping, the female driver ex- ited the vehicle upon command and a rear-seat fe- male entered the driver seat, drove the Durango forward and intentionally collided with an unoccupied FHP pa- trol car, while attempting to flee the scene.
The vehicle was stopped and the five occupants of the Durango were detained by FHP Troopers. Troopers then arrested 32-year-old
Grecham Toliver, of Tampa and 34-year-old Ashley Gater, also of Tampa.
Ms. Toliver was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and criminal mischief. She was also charged with 4 out of county warrants.
Ms. Gater was charged with aggravated fleeing to elude, leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, reckless driving with property dam- age or injury, and carjack- ing.
Both women are being held in the Hillsborough County Jail without bond.
All parties involved in the two crashes suffered minor injuries; the Trooper was not injured. Additional charges by the FHP are considered pending at this time.
Lakeland Police are in- vestigating the initial theft; any inquiries regarding that incident should be directed to the Lakeland Police De- partment.
