BY MONIQUE STAMPS Sentinel Feature Writer
On Thursday, March 31, 2022, the Corporation to Develop Communities (CDC) Tampa will hold the 3rd Annual Sisterhood Summit for young women. The theme for the 2022 Sisterhood Summit is Em- brace Your Crown and Shine.
The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) near the University of South Florida. The one-day conference is for girls in grades 9th through 12th. This event is the sister event to the CDC’s Annual Suit Up and Show Up Leadership Summit for young men.
Fifty young ladies are expected to attend the day of learning. The girls have been selected through participating local high schools, and participation in the CDC Youth Success Center programming.
According to Alexandria Andrade, Youth Program Manager and Job Developer Trainer for the CDC, “the summit brings together women from different segments of the community, including pol- itics, military, athletics, STEAM, business owners and more. The goal is to show girls that they can be
anything they want to be”.
Sisterhood Summit is also an opportunity for
Tampa’s women of today to inspire and mold our women of the future.
The students will share a day of learning, shar- ing and sisterhood. Topics to be discussed are lead- ership, career guidance, entrepreneurship, mental health and well-being, and empowering self-esteem.
Andrade states, “the summit will weave self-es- teem and self-worth throughout the breakout ses- sions. The keynote speaker will be the Tampa Fire Department Chief, Barbara Tripp. Breakout HGTV star, Amina Stevens is also expected to speak.
“This event will highlight the contributions of women who have paved paths in their careers and community and will provide hope and healing as transition from the pandemic,” Andrade stresses.
Since 1992, the CDC of Tampa has been working to alleviate poverty and create vibrant communities throughout the Tampa Bay Area.
The Youth Success Center is focused on develop- ing tomorrow’s leaders by providing them a solid foundation on which to build prosperous futures for themselves, their families, and their communities.
The Youth Success Team is excited to announce its third annual initiative to invest in the future of our community’s young women: Sisterhood Sum- mit.
