American Legion Post 167 Celebrates Organization’s Birthday With Banquet
BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
Although they may not have a physical Post home, The American Legion Carmichael-LaGree Post 167 is still serving the commu- nity.
On Saturday, March 18, 2017, the Post will host its birthday celebration of Amer- ican Legion, which turned 98 years old on Wednesday, March 15. The Post will host its Scholarship Banquet Din- ner and Dance to celebrate the birthday at the American Legion Post 111, 6818 N. Florida Ave., Tampa (33604). The doors open at 6 p. m., and dinner is served at 6:30 p. m.
Longtime American Le- gion member of Post 167, Eu- nice Butts says, “My goal is for the community to use some of the services that are available to veterans and or- ganizations that care for the welfare of children.”
While in the process of lo- cating another home, Ms. Butts says the Post continues its work in the community. The American Legion Maga- zine, which goes all over the world, recognized Post 167 for the many programs and services to the military, veter- ans and their families and in the community.
“All of this is done without a Post home. We send 1 boy to Boys State, give Christmas toys to students at Oak Park and Desota Schools Head- start Programs; medals and

awards to Middleton’s JROTC; help and donate to homeless organizations or veterans that may need one- time help, and assist veterans with claims.
American Legion Post 167 participates in all patriotic ac- tivities and children and youth programs.
Since its inception, the American Legion has realized a need to care for and protect the nation’s children.
“In 1925, our national welfare division adopted the “whole child” plan. This plans says that the child of every veteran should have a home, be healthy, get an education, have character and opportu- nity,” she said.
Post 167 has received nu- merous awards, plaques and certificates from the national office, The Department of Florida American Legion and the community.
For more information on the event this weekend, tick- ets or more information on American Legion, contact Ms. Butts at (813) 247-4267 (home) or (813) 928-2357 (no texting please).
