USF Grad Appointed To Code Enforcement Board
Safety Engineer Tomikel Curtis is a new member to the Hillsborough County Code Enforcement Board.
The Hillsborough County Board of County Commission- ers has appointed Safety Engi- neer Tomikel Curtis to the Hillsborough County Code En- forcement Board. This Board has jurisdiction to hear viola- tions of all codes and ordi- nances of Hillsborough County with most cases arising out of violations of the County’s
housing, building, zoning and sign codes and ordinances to maintain minimum health and safety standards.
Curtis said, “I hope to in- crease awareness and compli- ance with the need for public health and safety in all infra- structure improvements, as the region continues its path toward growth.”
Curtis, 27, is a former Tampa Preparatory School De- bate Team champion. He is a graduate of Hillsborough Community College, Florida A&M University and the Uni-

versity of South Florida. He is presently Safety & Health Offi- cer and Information Technol-
ogy Manager for Curtoom Companies, Inc., a recognized professional services firm founded in Tampa over 20 years ago.
Curtis’s Safety duties in- clude implementing Safety Program on the jobsites; man- aging safety documentation, and clearly communicating with the Safety Officials and onsite personnel to maintain an accident-free construction site. As Information Technol- ogy officer, he evaluates the newest and most innovative technologies and determines
how these can integrate into their organization.
Curtis is a member of the National Society of Black Engi- neers, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Asso- ciated Builders & Contractors Association. He provided sup- port to Engineer Without Bor- ders (EWB) in Port Au Prince, Haiti providing relief to resi- dents after the 2010 earth- quake catastrophe.
Curtis is the son of Paul and Wilhelmina Curtis, founders of Curtoom Compa- nies, Inc.
