Survey Monitors Services Provided By FDOT
BY LEON B. CREWS Sentinel Staff Writer
Dr. Chanyoung Lee, Project Manager with the Uni- versity of South Florida’s Cen- ter For Urban Transportation Research, said they have been petitioned by the Florida De- partment of Transportation (FDOT) to conduct a survey.
According to Dr. Lee, FDOT conducts a survey every
other year to determine whether or not people are comfortable with the services they are receiving.
“We’ve selected 30,000 homes in Florida, and sent out the survey,” said Dr. Lee.
“What FDOT wants to know is if the people are happy with the way they’ve dealt with traffic issues and other large projects, like TBX.”
Dr. Lee said the survey is
done randomly, and doesn’t target a specific area of the city.
“I really don’t want to talk about the survey while it’s still going on, because that would defeat the purpose.
“We expect to complete the survey by August 15th, if we don’t have to expand it due to slow response times.”
FDOT is responsible for maintaining the State High-
way System. This system in- cludes major roads, such as in- terstates and highways with the U. S. or state road num- bers.
In 1999, FDOT adopted the Sterling Criteria for Organiza- tional Performance Excellence as a business model, saying they are determined to make a good agency even better by measuring and improving their performances in different
areas. That’s why customers are surveyed.
Since 2000, FDOT has been asking their residents, visitors, transportation part- ners and businesses to tell them what they are doing right and what they can do better in providing transportation prod- ucts and services to the people. The survey results help FDOT track their progress in improv- ing customer satisfaction.
