BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
On Thursday, June 16th, at 6:30 p.m., the Hillsborough County Branch of the NAACP will host a zoom meeting. The guest speaker for their General Meeting this month is Timo- thy Dudley, Jr., Director of Emergency Management, Hillsborough County.
Ms. Yvette Lewis, Presi- dent of the Hillsborough County Branch NAACP is ask- ing everyone to pre-register for the meeting at www.naacphillsborough.org.
“This is hurricane season and this is a very important meeting. People need to be aware of what is going on and
what to do in certain situa- tions.”
A native of St. Petersburg, Dudley graduated from Lake- wood High School. Dudley entered the military and re- tired 24 years later as a deco- rated Sergeant Major in 2014. He resides in the Tampa Bay area with his wife, Shon- nette, and their four children and one grandchild.
After retirement, Dudley joined the Pinellas County Emergency Management team for five years and then took the helm at Hillsborough County's Office of Emergency Manage- ment in 2019.
Currently, the Office of Emergency Management teams consists of 17 people and is under the much larger umbrella of Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. Dudley says his team has grown over the last three years and contin- ues to do so. The county's fast- paced growth means that the County's Emergency Manage- ment team must grow with it. They must be prepared for any disaster or large-scale emer- gency event at any time.
As for his goals for the fu- ture, Dudley is quick to say that he wants to provide op- portunities for young profes- sionals to train in the dynamic career of emergency manage- ment.
