Motorcyclist, Bicyclist Killed In Separate Traffic Accidents
Two men were killed in separate traffic accidents on Monday. Both accidents were investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol.
According to police, the first accident took place shortly before noon in Pinel- las County. It took place on Curlew Road and Country- side Blvd.
Russel Wood, 39, of Oldsmar, was driving a 2006 Suzi GSXR motorcycle east- bound on Curlew Road ap- proaching Countryside Blvd. A 2008 Chevrolet Express, driven by Wesley Bur- chardt, 58, of Lutz was trav- eling westbound on Curlew Road in the left turn lane. A
third vehicle, a 2006 Chrysler 300, driven by Ms. Terri Howells, 74, of Clearwater, was traveling northbound on Countryside Blvd., in the left turn lane.
Officials said as Wood entered the intersection, Burchardt turned left in the intersection, colliding with the motorcycle. The mo- torcycle then collided with Ms. Howells’ vehicle.
Wood was fatally injured and died at the scene. Ms. Howells or Burchardt did not report any injuries to po- lice.
The investigation is con- tinuing and charges are pending, police said.
The second accident took place in Hillsborough County at the intersection of North Dale Mabry and Lambright Street, around 8:40 p.m.
Officials said the accident involved two vehicles and a bicyclist. The bicyclist died at the scene.
According to police, James Aaron Hope was traveling southbound on the raise median on Dale Mabry, approaching Lambright. Angel Valladares, 21, of Tampa, was traveling north- bound on Dale Mabry in the inside lane, approaching Lambright. Valladares was driving a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe.
Anthony Grampietro,
20, of Tampa, was traveling northbound on Dale Mabry in the center lane, approach- ing Lambright. Grampi- etro was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla, and was slightly behind Valladares, officials said.
For unknown reasons, Hope entered the inside lane in front of Valladares’ vehicle. The front of the vehi-
cle struck the bicycle and Hope was thrown off. Grampietro’s vehicle then struck Valladares’s vehicle and landed on top of Hope. Hope died at the scene.
Neither Valladares nor Grampietro reported any injuries to police. John Keigher, 21, also of Tampa, who was a passenger in Grampietro’s vehicle, was not injured.
Minister’s Concern For Youth, Seniors Leads Her To Request Building
BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
A Tampa minister has concerns about the violence that’s taking place in our communities. Minister Juanita Ford, a minister at Peace Progressive M. B. Church, is interested in mak- ing a difference in the com- munity.
Her concerns have led her to request the building of a facility at the Alfred (Al) Barnes, Jr. Park in the Jack- son Heights community.
“We have been over- looked for so long. We are pleading to the City of Tampa to take a look into making our community safe to have a place for our youth and seniors to go,” she said.
“Our youth are dropping out of school. Our children are tomorrow’s adults and they’re a product of their en- vironment. I’m committed to doing whatever I can to make a difference. There’s nothing in this community for senior citizens.”
Minister Ford gathered about 200 petitions from residents in the Jackson Heights community to the City Council. The petitions were delivered to the Mayor’s Office, the Commu- nity Redevelopment Agency
MINISTER JUANITA FORD
Board (CRA) and to the City of Tampa Rec. Dept.
“They told me I’d know something by next month,” she said about the building of a facility. “I’m not going to stop – I’m going to keep on them until something is done.”
Minister Ford says with no positive programs or incentives in place, our youth suffer.
“Without a facility, we have no leadership, no staffing, no programs, no ac- tivities of any kind; no re- sources – nothing goes on there,; it’s just an open park.
“Let us build this facility to help keep our young peo- ple from being revolving door criminals. My goal is to build families, communities – one at a time.”
