According to reports, Mos Def (aka Yasiin Bey) was arrested last week in Cape Town, South Africa. The Brooklyn rapper, born Dante Smith, was taken into custody at the Cape Town Interna- tional Airport over charges re-
lated to passport.”
a “fraudulent
South Africa’s Ministry of Home Affairs spokesperson Mayihlome Tshwete ad- dressed the situation via Twit- ter, and he revealed Mos and his family have 14 days to de- part the country.
Bey has now issued a state- ment about the matter through his longtime friend and musical partner, Kanye West.
He denied committing any crimes, and he believes gov- ernment officials are making false claims against him. Ac- cording to Bey, his world passport has been an accepted document in South Africa for years.
Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def was arrested for alleged presenting a false passport.
“I have reason to believe or suspect that there are political motivations behind the way that I’m being treated, because this is following no reasonable train of logic,” stated Bey. “It’s curious. I haven’t broken any law, and I’m being treated like a criminal.”
Bey added he just wants to leave South Africa. He and his family are ready to exit the country and not return.
Toni Braxton’s Biopic Airs Saturday
The People Vs. O.J. Simpson Will Reveal Alleged Inside Facts About The Case That Galvanized America
Toni Braxton is ready for the world to see her life the way it happened.
Toni Braxton is the next R&B star to have her life told through a movie on the Lifetime network. Braxton was directly involved in the making of Un- break My Heart.
The 7-time Grammy winner served as executive producer on the film. Braxton played a role in selecting the actors and cos- tumes, and she assisted in post- production duties. According to the “Un-Break My Heart” vo- calist, the movie will be an au- thentic portrayal of her.
“People read the headlines and see the big captions, but no one reads the story. I’m hoping this will give them the back story,” Braxton told Billboard. Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart starring Lex Scott Davis is scheduled to premiere on Satur- day, January 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Lifetime.
From left: Courtney B. Vance (Johnnie Cochran), Cuba Good- ing Jr. (O.J. Simpson), Sarah Paulson (Marcia Clark), John Tra- volta (Robert Shapiro) and David Schwimmer (Robert Kardashian).
Twenty years after O.J. Simpson’s acquittal, John Travolta, Cuba Gooding, Jr. and the players behind FX's 'American Crime Story' reveal for the first time how their very 2016 rearview ex- amination of the case reveals a whole other reality. Plus: Sea- son 2's topic (Katrina) re- vealed. The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, premieres Feb. 2 on FX.
It's surprising, little-known details about the case culled from Jeffrey Toobin's book, The Run of His Life, that con- vinced director Ryan Mur-
phy, along with producer Nina Jacobson, to dive headfirst into one of the most well-worn, polarizing stories in modern America where, of course, everyone knows the ending.
The 10-episode series, which makes no overt argu- ment for guilt or innocence, is unlikely to change anyone's view of Simpson's culpability (he was, as the jail guard pre- dicted, acquitted of all charges on Oct. 3, 1995); instead, it's a meticulous blow-by-blow of the case, illuminating all the ways it inflamed racial politics.
Bobby Shmurda’s Bail Reduction Denied For 7th Time
BOBBY SHMURDA
Judge Abraham Clott, who is currently presiding over Bobby Shmurda’s case, has again denied the request for a bail modification. Tuesday (Jan. 19), the New York City judge de- clined to reduce the bail amount from $2 M. The “Hot Boys” rap- per faces charges stemming from reckless endangerment, conspiracy to commit murder, and weapons possession.
Legal counsel for the Brook- lyn rapper maintains that the current bond is based on an ex- aggerated amount.
Shmurda’s lawyer Adam Spiro believes that a reason- able bond amount would range from $50,000 – $100,000. Al- though Bobby’s bond has been denied seven previous times Spiro is reportedly still dedi- cated to getting it lowered. The 21 year-old Shmurda is set to go back to court on Feb. 22.

Fetty Wap And Masika Beefing On Twitter Over Pregnancy
Fetty Wap’s ongoing drama with his brand new baby’s mother, Love & Hip- Hop star Masika Kalysha, continues. The rapper and real- ity star exchanged words on Twitter on Monday (Jan. 18) as a dispute began about the terms of their romp that left her with child. The two ex- changed insults, as Masika claimed Fetty was being less than truthful during his inter- view with The Shade Room during which he confessed to
fathering her child.
“Basically, she knew what she
was doing,” he told the popular gossip site. “I wasn’t just no random dude in the club, you know what I’m saying? She knew I was going to be there, and that’s how that happened.”
Fetty also claimed that on the night their child was con- ceived, Masika never inquired about using protection. In the Shade Room interview, Fetty also claimed they had a plan to prevent having a child together.
