Fire Chief Honored At Annual ‘Evening With The Stars’ Event

On Saturday, June 17th, members of the community gath- ered at the Holiday Inn Hotel, Cypress and Westshore Blvd. The purpose of the gathering was the Unity Chapter #164’s Annual “Evening With The Stars.”
The theme for the event this year was, “Lift Every Voice And Sing.” Worthy Matron Ann Smith Jenk- ins said, “The organization is continually enforcing the theme by continually encouraging residents in the commu- nity to stand firm for what they believe in, especially having the trust and confidence in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
Dr. Samuel L. Wright, Sr., served as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Reverend Larry Roundtree, II, senior pastor at New Mount Zion Mis- sionary Baptist Church, delivered the keynote address.
Entertainers highlighting the evening with their special talents included Ms. Belinda Womack, Alex Harris ac- companied by his brother, Norman Harris, Esq., and Ms. Michelle Lamb, of Gainesville.
Another highlight of the program was the recognition of Tampa Fire Chief Tom Forward as the “Volunteer of the Year.”
Worthy Matron Jenkins said, “This noble gentleman continues to serve this community in a grandiose way.”
In addition to the tribute paid to Chief Forward, the Eastern Stars paid a tribute of respect to the late Robert Scott, Sr., who served the community with dignity and re- spect.
“His unselfish acts have enhanced the overall Tampa community in ways beyond measure,” Worthy Matron Jenkins said.
Mr. Scott’s widow, Mrs. Doris Scott, children, grandchildren, and other family members were on hand to accept the posthumous award.
Ross Anderson, founder of Men of Vision, Inc., was on hand with several members of his organization who served as escorts for the evening.
Two of its members, Khalied Henderson and Keyshawn Spain, both high school seniors, were pre- sented $500 book voucher scholarships to continue their education beyond high school.
