Parents, Students Invited To Learn More About The FSA

Starting from elementary school grades, students and their parents are very familiar with the Florida Standardized Assessment (FSA) testing pe- riod.
That time will soon be here, and for some students and their parents, it’s a stressful time – kids wanting to do well and their parents wanting them to do well.
On Saturday, February 2, 2019, Ms. April Cobb will be hosting “The FSA Experi- ence,” a free community event. From 12 noon to 3 p. m., parents and students will learn what the test is all about and why it is administered, types of questions on the test, which assessments your child will be taking. She has online resources that parents can use to support their children, as well as sample questions. Students in 3rd to 10th grades are invited with their parents to come to the FSA Experience. “We have such low performance on the FSA,” she said.
The event will be held at the Village of Excellence Academy, 8718 N. 46th St., Tampa 33617. There will be door prizes, gift cards and more.
The FSA Experience was founded by Ms. Cobb, a Math teacher at Jennings Middle School, after discov- ering many parents and stu- dents do not know the facts about FSA and how it may impact them beyond school as it relates to the school- to- prison pipeline.

“In collaboration with current administrators, teachers, and guidance coun- selors, the FSA Experience will empower parents with much needed information to support their child in prepa- ration for the 2018-2019 School Year. Students will leave the event with valuable resources to combine with those embedded in their everyday instruction,” she ex- plained.
U. S. House of Represen- tative (District 61) Dianne Hart and Community Leader, Pastor Antonio Hawkins both will be in attendance to briefly share some insight, along with invited school board members and political leaders.
