Condolences Extended
YouthBuild-Lakeland Celebrates Graduates
YouthBuild-Lakeland recently held a com- mencement exercise for its 12th cycle of program participants. The host-site was the Simpson Park Community Center in Lakeland.
Opening remarks and a warm welcome were ex- tended by Janiene Bambridge, Program Man- ager, who also served as Mistress of Ceremony. Don Brown, 1st Vice President of the Florida State Conference-NAACP rendered words of encourage- ment as the keynote speaker. As a large number of family members and friends looked on, Benjamin Stevenson, Executive Director of the Lakeland Housing Authority (LHA) gave remarks and as- sisted by Mr. Brown, presented certificates of completion to the graduates.
Other supporting staff members were: Rick Mooneyham, Academic Instructor; Terry Love, Construction Instructor; Cynthia E. Zorn-Shaw, Career Development Coordinator; and Lovett Johnson, LHA Community Manager.
Congratulations to those who successfully com- pleted the YouthBuild-Lakeland Cycle 12 Class of 2016: Tavius Clements, Justina Gonzalez, Samantha Gordon, Justin Jones, Amanda Hamlet, Jelissa Handford, Dalton Hart, Shatoria Idom, Tavaris Kincade, Nick McMahan, Johnnie Merritt, Caitlin Now- itzke, Marisha Robinson, Jessica Selph, Franklin VanBeverhoudt, and Jason Williams.
YouthBuild-Lakeland is a six-month pro- gram that was founded in 2007. A goal of the pro- gram is to help young adults, 18 to 24 years of age, to work towards improving their lives by complet- ing the necessary steps to obtain their GED and learn job skills.
Participants receive classroom instruction to prepare for the GED exam, opportunities to receive certifications in forklift, OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR and PACT, a nationally recognized carpentry train- ing program. In addition, participants receive on- the-job training while working on construction sites that build and rehabilitate housing for low-income families.
There is also a strong emphasis placed on career development and job placement.

This week’s Shaw-Nuf Shout-out goes out to Coach Johnnie Lawson who was voted the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 7-A Basketball Coach of the Year.
Recently, Coach Lawson skillfully guided the Winter Haven Lady Blue Devils basketball team to become the state champions.

April 19th, the Homegoing
Celebration was held at Victory Temple in Lake- land. Final arrangements were entrusted to Coney’s Funeral Home.
To her children, Jessica Jenkins and Ezra Horton...seek the Lord for your comfort and strengthening, and know that there are a lot of folks who love you, are praying for you, and are here to support you in the days to come.

Lake Wales NAACP Holds Freedom Fund Banquet
On Saturday March 12th, State and Polk County Community Leaders, Keith Ward Sr., Larry Mitchell, Shandale Terrell, Brain Haas, Tim James and 100 plus citizens attended the Lake Wales NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet.
