    Annual African Nation Family Reunion Block Party Planned
 On July 4th, members of the Uhuru House will host their Second Annual African Nation Family Reunion Block Party. The event will take place on 18th Avenue, South at 13th Street.
The festivities will begin at 4 p.m., with free outdoor activities for children, card games, music and family fellowship. The menu includes BBQ, seafood, slushies, and vegan meals pro- vided by local food vendors.
At 5 p.m., local singers, rap- pers and musicians will perform on the Black Power 96 Sound Stage. This year’s lineup in- cludes Skitserena, Rosa Boi, OG Jock, Vinci, Twon, Jonathan Laflare, and Nasja Mone.
Black Power 96’s State Man- ager Diakiesse wants to turn the 4th of July into a day where, “We can come together and build the strength of our com- munity so that we can really get free!”
The mission of the radio sta- tion is to “defend the human and civil rights of the African
community and to address the grave disparities in health, edu- cation, and economic develop- ment faced by the community.
The radio station also pro- vides free training in profes- sional broadcasting and access to the radio airwaves for the local talent, organizations, and
businesses.
The station is also celebrat-
ing plans to raise the height of its broadcast tower to 70 feet to expand its listening audience.

   Commencement Speaker
On Saturday, June 23rd, Dr. Shandale Terrell was invited by William Boss, Professor, administration, faculty and staff members of Florida Technical College, Lakeland Campus, to give the Commence- ment Speech for the Graduating Class of 2018.
Dr. Terrell informed the graduates
that, God gave them a gift and talents to use
wisely. Dr. Terrell also told the graduates
to stay focused on their vision, goals and
dreams of being successful in their future
endeavors, in education and earning their educational credentials.
He said, “your education is the number one Universal Key that will unlock any door for job opportunities and professional growth. You are here, at a place of celebration. Don’t stop now. Pause to celebrate, but keep going to the next level of success. Stay focused, stay on track!”
