Controversial Judge Denies Meek Mills’ Request For New Trial
After being released on bail in April, Meek Mill and his team have remained diligent in overturning his 2008 con- viction for possessing a firearm and drugs. However, that legal battle hit a road- block.
According to Philly.com, Judge Genece E. Brinkley denied the 31-year-old artist’s “petition for relief” from the case that has placed him on probation for over a decade now (he was initially given eight years probation when he was sentenced by Brink- ley in 2008).
The reason for Meek’s plea stems back to a bomb- shell report that claims the officer responsible for his de- tainment was a corrupt offi- cial.
Part of Judge Brinkley’s basis for the denial stems from her disapproval of the

Items from the box office- breaking blockbuster Black Panther will be on display at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture for the museum’s first ever African American Film Festival later this year.
According to The Smith- sonian’s website, King T’Challa’s famous and form-fitting Black Panther suit, a signed shooting script, a spec script and several pho- tographs “documenting the filmmaking process” will be on display at the museum from Oct. 24-27.
The museum is also cur- rently finalizing plans to have
the Black Panther suit on dis- play on a permanent basis.
“The Afrofuturist vibe of Black Panther, well em- bodied by T’Challa’s tech- nologically sophisticated yet culturally respectful panther suit, speaks to a growing ca- pacity for innovation among African nations even as it cel- ebrates their deep roots in tradition and ceremony,” writes The Smithsonian of the film’s importance.
As of press time, Black Panther has accumulated a worldwide gross of $1.35 bil- lion, and a domestic gross of nearly $700 million. Plans for a sequel have been an- nounced.
