“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her house- hold and does not eat the bread of idleness.”
Proverbs 31:26-27
A longtime Tampa resi- dent and wife of a prominent physician quietly slipped away on Sunday. Mrs. Nancy Mildred Butler Andrews passed at her home, surrounded by her family.
Her death comes 2 months and 18 days after her
husband, Dr. William W. Andrews, who passed away on November 13, 2015.
A native of Bessemer, Al- abama, Mrs. Andrews at- tended the public schools of that city. After graduating from Dunbar High School as the class Valedictorian, Mrs. Andrews continued her ed- ucation at Talladega College. She graduated from Tal- ladega with a degree in Soci- ology.
While at Talladega, she met and married W. W. An- drews. The couple began a journey as husband and wife that spanned more than 65 years.
After college, they moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where Dr. Andrews con-

In 1964, Dr. and Mrs. Andrews and their family
relocated to Tampa, where he launched his medical practice. They were the par- ents of 4 daughters, Johna Belle, Lillian, Michele and Sharon.
After their youngest daughter began school, Mrs. Andrews served as an Ad- ministrator in her husband’s office until they retired in September 2012. The office was located on property at 3105 N. 22nd Street.
Mrs. Andrews, 86, was dedicated to her family and friends. She loved talking on the telephone, traveling, cro- cheting, and being around people.
She loved the theater, and in later years, enjoyed watching football, cheering

Ex-Tampa Police Employee To Plead In Tax Fraud Case
Residents Invited To Attend School Board Meeting
A former Tampa Police Department employee has accepted a plea agreement in an income tax refund fraud case. She is facing up to 10 years in prison.
According to court docu- mentation, Ms. Tonia Bright has agreed to plead guilty to two counts of ob- taining information from a protected computer. Ms. Bright was a 33-year veteran civilian of the Tampa Police Department.
As part of her authorized duties, she took reports from citizens in person and by tele- phone that did not require the response of a sworn po- lice officer. As a result of her responsibilities, Ms. Bright had access to local, state, and federal law enforcement databases, including the Na- tional Crime Information Center computerized index. But, her authorized use was restricted to the performance of her duties.
Officials said Ms. Bright began providing her friend, Ms. Rita Monique Girven with information for the pur-
pose of filing false federal in- come tax returns, beginning in 2009 through 2014. Ms. Bright reportedly gave Ms. Girven protected informa- tion on at least 10 occasions. When Ms. Girven received the income tax refunds, she shared some of the money with Ms. Bright.
Ms. Bright accessed the information of a tax fraud victim on March 13, 2013. Police said the victim had not had any contact with the de- partment since July 2012 and there was no legitimate rea- son for Ms. Bright to access his information.
She is said to have given the information to Ms. Gir- ven who filed 15 tax refunds generated from her home ad- dress and loaded on to a debit card.
Officials said Ms. Girven attempted to obtain $757,936 in fraudulent income tax re- funds. She successfully re- ceived $432,157.
Ms. Girven is currently serving a 10-year sentence in federal prison. No court date has been set for Ms. Bright.
Ms. Doretha Edge- comb is inviting members of the community to attend the Annual Black History Month Proclamation.
It will take place on Tues-
day, February 2, 2016, 3 p.m., in the School Board Au- ditorium. The Proclamation is among the first items on the agenda.
The annual event recog-
nizes the importance of Black History Month and the con- tributions of African-Ameri- cans in our country’s history, with an emphasis on local history makers.
