In November 2020, The Free Press reported on a music industry lawsuit filed by a once-popular hip-hop DJ known as “DJ Short-E.” It was filed against Orlando Davis, a leading music radio personality and program di- rector employed by WiLD 94.1 FM.
The radio station, known as “The Bay’s Party Station,” is owned by co-defendant Beasley Media Group located in Naples.
On September 2, “DJ Short-E” Eric Mishiyev issued an amended legal complaint filed in the Hills- borough County court sys- tem.

       MATHEW KORATTIYIL
For the second time, a Valrico man was sentenced to life in prison. The first time, James Hanson, Jr., 41, was convicted of the 2002 armed robbery of an AmSouth bank in Tampa. He was later released from a life sentence when he agreed to testify in another case. He had served 17 years of the sentence.
In the summer of 2019, Hanson committed the same crime, robbing an- other bank, but this time he was charged with several other crimes, including kid- napping and murder.
Earlier this week, Han- son’s trial began, but one of the jurors said she knew Hanson. Hillsborough County Judge Samantha Ward declared a mistrial.
Hanson, who survived after attempting to hang himself while at the Hills- borough County Jail, was arrested on the new charges and another trial. Hanson, facing the selection of a new jury and a trial, changed his
plea from not guilty to guilty on all charges. Judge Ward sentenced him to life in prison Tuesday evening.
On the morning of Au- gust 8, 2019, Mathew Ko- rattiyil, a customer at CenterState Bank, in Val- rico, had also gone to the bank. Hanson is accused of carjacking and kidnap- ping 68-year-old Korat- tiyil.
Deputies later found the body of 68-year-old Mathew Korattiyil in a church parking lot where he’d been strangled. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Hanson. After a brief car chase, he was arrested. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Hanson gave a full confession to the detectives during an inter- view. Hanson was charged with pre-meditated first-de- gree murder; carjacking; grand theft motor vehicle; kidnapping; and resisting an officer with violence rob- bery (less than $300).
