MR. JOHNNIE LEE RUSHING, SR.
Mr. Johnnie Lee Rushing, Sr. passed away Thursday, Septem- ber 15, 2022. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022, 11:00 a. m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 3360,6 with Senior Pastor C. T. Kirkland of Mt. Pleasant Mission- ary Baptist Church, Officiating. Interment will be held Monday, September 26, 2022, 11:00 a. m. in Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bush- nell, FL 33513. MASK RECOM- MENDED.
Mr. Johnnie Lee Rushing, Sr. was born in Florida, retired, and has been a resident for the past eight years. He graduated from Jefferson High School, Class of 1982. Johnnie joined and served honorably in the United States Air Force and was last employed in the security industry in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He is preceded in death by: his father, James Alfred Rushing, Sr.; and his twin brother, Jessie Lee Rushing, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his mem- ories: his daughter, Stacie Giles; son, Johnnie Lee Rushing, Jr.; three granddaughters, Ashante, Shayla, and Keisha Brooks; ex- wife, Tracy Rushing-Brooks; lov- ing mother, Lizzie Mae Rushing; sisters, Debra Rushing-Curry, and Sharon Rushing Lake (AL); brothers, John Rushing (Bon- nie), and James Alfred Rushing, Jr. (Ronda); and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, classmates, family and friends.
The visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2022, at Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606. MASK RECOMMENDED.

MR. JAPHUS WILLIAMS
Mr. Japhus “Jake” Williams passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022, 1:00 p. m. at Mt. Olive AME Church, 1902 W. LaSalle St., Tampa, FL 33607, with Rev. Gre- gory V. Gay, Sr., Pastor, Officiat- ing. MASK RECOMMENDED.
Japhus Williams was born on September 21, 1951, in Donal- sonville, GA, and relocated to Tampa as a child with his parents and sister, Corene Williams. Jake Williams was a member of Blake High School Class of 1969, where he played both Varsity Football and Baseball. He was an active member of the Class of ‘69 alumni organization family. He was also an active member of the Blake High Athletic Booster Club, where he served as Business Manager. Jake’s other volunteer work in- cluded: former member of the Tampa Jaycees, where he worked with the Special Olympics and other community service pro- grams. He also served on Family Reunions Planning Committees.
Our beloved Jake Williams was a member of Mt. Olive AME Church where he served as a Class Leader, Van Driver, volunteer for Feeding America, assisted in the Culinary Program and last but not least, was a Sexton for the Church. Jake Williams received an “Un- sung Hero Award” from Mt. Olive AME in September 2020, for Dedi- cated and Faithful Service during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Jake
Williams was a “Humanitarian at Heart” for the elderly of Mt. Olive AME Church and the Community. Jake Williams’ work experience included: Tampa Yacht and Coun- try Club for 22 years as a Parking Attendant; following in the foot- steps of his mother, he was a Cos- metologist and Platform Artist with Luster Silk Hair Products; Private Driver for elderly clients; and Truck Driver for the League of Mercy, Tampa and other busi- nesses.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Sallie Allen Brown of Thomasville, GA, and Willie and Evencie Williams, owners of Twi- light Beauty Shop, Tampa, FL.
He leaves to cherish his mem- ories: his daughter, Sharon Williams; a devoted sister, Corene Williams Collins (Mitch Harvey); a devoted niece, Kisten Collins; granddaughter, DeUnna Blalark; great-grandsons, Jerel Clark, Jayshawn Clark, and Jayden Clark; brothers and sisters, Fred Hopkins of Riverdale, GA, Mamie Brown of Thomasville, GA, Ira Brown of Tallahassee, FL, Sallie Jane (Troy) Anderson, Benjamin (Cathy) Brown of Thomasville, GA., Nathaniel Brown of Orlando, FL, Fredrick Brown of Clearwater, FL; godbrother, Paul Sampson of Orlando, FL; special friend, Bar- bara Nedd; special nephews and nieces; Mt. Olive AME Church Family; Blake High Class of 1969 family and close friends; Blake High Athletic Booster Club family; loving cousins from the Allen and Williams families; and a host of loving and sorrowing family and friends.

SISTER NELLIE BYTHEWOOD
A Celebration of Life service for Sister Nellie “Peaches” Bythe- wood will be held Saturday, Sep- tember 24, 2022 at 11:00 a. m. at St. Luke AME Church, 2709 N. 25th St., Tampa, FL, with Rev- erend Kirk R. Bogen, officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, Florida.
Our beloved mother, friend, and church member, Nellie “Peaches” Bythewood of Thomasville, GA, was called home on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the age of 93. She at- tended Douglas High School in Thomasville, Ga, and Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Julius Bythe- wood Sr. Nellie moved to the Greater Tampa Bay area where she met and married Julius, pro- ducing two sons, Reginald and Jeffery, from the union, and Oliver who came along with his dad. Not only was she a commit- ted and active mother to her 3 sons, but she was also a Dental As- sistant to the Greater Tampa Bay area under the leadership of Dr. Smith and Dr. Myers until she re- tired. As a member of St. Luke’s AME Church for over 70 years, she occupied various roles such as Usher, choir member, Trustee, and a member of the Young at Heart Ministry. Nellie in her free time was very active within the community. She belonged to the Professional Women of Tampa, The Distinguished Ladies of Tampa, Chapter of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, and The Heart of East Tampa Front Porch Coun- cil, making her not only a pillar of the community but a role model. Peaches was a wonderful woman who was always filling her home with warmth and kindness by hosting friends, and family. She will be deeply missed, and we are all heartbroken to lose someone so loving.
She is survived by her sons, Oliver, Reginald, and Jeffrey, along with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a viewing on Fri- day, September 23, 2022 at Wil- son Funeral Home, 3000 N. 29th Street, Tampa, Florida from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Due to the current CDC restrictions; we are asking that you use the visitation as an opportunity to pay your final re- spect. MR. CAREY VERNARD DANIELS
Home going celebration and viewing for Mr. Carey Vernard “Big” Daniels will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022. Viewing will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 3000 N. 29th Street, Tampa, Florida with Rev. W. D. Sims, Officiating. The service will fol- low at 2:00 p.m.
Mr. Carey Vernard Daniels affectionately known as “Big” was born on December 26, 1972 in Tampa, Florida to James and Eartha Ann Daniels. Carey graduated from Tampa Bay Technical on June 5, 1992. He was employed by Fetch Packing as a Delivery Driver. He de- parted this life on Sunday Sep- tember 11, 2022.
Mr. Daniels was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Dorothy Brim.
He leaves behind his loving, caring and devoted wife, Peggy Brim Daniels; children, Cory Daniels, Cor’Tavia Daniels, Cor’Tasia Daniels, Carlos Brim (Colette), Clifford Richardson, III (Tasha), Clif ‘Shandra Richardson (Tip), Cory Richardson and Earnesha Grier; 25 caring grandchildren (they all called him Dad); 3 great grandchildren; parents, James and Eartha Ann Daniels; siblings, Brenda Daniels, Gwen- dolyn Botten (William), James Daniels, Jr. (Linda), Gloria Lindo (Dennis), Debra Brown (James), Robert Lee Daniels, Annette James, James Daniels, III, Aretha Anderson; a host of nieces and nephews; a host of sisters-in-law including special sister-in-law, Chrissy; a host of other relatives and friends. He was loved by all his family and he will be truly be missed.
