Student Arrested For
Blake High
Man Charged With First-Degree Murder
JAYLEN SHAZELL Shazell was involved in the
pursuit of Perry’s white In- finiti when he drove off from a local nightclub, and also in the shooting at Perry’s In- finiti 24 times. While fleeing from the shots, Perry crashed on Tyrone Blvd., near 9th Avenue North. Perry’s vehicle flipped and caught on fire. Perry died hours later from his injuries.
Police did not release any additional information about the case.

Arrested For
Police arrested a 13-year-old student after he allegedly set another student’s clothing on fire. The incident took place last Wednesday at North Tampa Alternative School, 8602 N. Armenia Avenue, around 1 p. m.
According to Tampa Po- lice and Tampa Fire Rescue, investigators were called to North Tampa Alternative School on September 14, 2022. The male juvenile vic- tim and Omari Lewis were in class together when Lewis used a lighter to set fire to the hooded sweatshirt the victim was wearing.

The Tampa Police Depart- ment arrested a 10th grade student at Blake High School last Wednesday afternoon, after he was discovered with a loaded gun on campus.
On September 14, 2022, multiple students were repri- manded by school staff for hanging out in the school stairwell, which is not permit- ted. When the students were escorted to the administrative office, their backpacks were searched by school staff.
One of the students, De- ontae Boatwright, 15, re- fused to have his backpack searched. An administrator called Boatwright’s mother, who came to the school and proceeded to search her son’s backpack in the presence of administrators.
When she did not find any- thing suspicious, she handed the bag to an administrator to conduct an additional search. The administrator opened a pencil pouch inside the back- pack and discovered a loaded .380 semi-automatic pistol.
The School Resource Offi- cer was called to the office to secure the weapon.
Boatwright was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school prop- erty (felony). He was trans- ported to the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC).
DEMOND PERRY
Detectives with the St. Pe- tersburg Police Department have arrested a 22-year-old man and charged him with first-degree murder. He is charged with the death of Demond Perry, 26, that took place earlier this year.
According to the St. Pe- tersburg Police Department, Jaylen Shazell, 22, was ar- rested and charged.

Third Person Arrested For Setting Body On Fire

The Pinellas County Sher- iff’s Office has arrested a third person in connection with setting a woman’s body on fire. Jerrish Stephens was arrested Thursday and charged with abuse of a dead body.
Last week, police arrested a mother and daughter in connection with a body being set afire. The body of Heather Olmstead was discovered after firemen re- sponded to a fire in an alley on August 18th.
Both women, identified as 64-year-old Julie Curran and 30-year-old Cree Wor- ley, were both charged with
abuse of a dead body. According to police, Cur-
ran set the woman’s body on fire using a flammable sub- stance. When firemen re- sponded to a fire in the alley behind Emerson Avenue, South and 29th Street, they discovered Olmstead’s burned body.
Police arrested Worley on September 6th and her mother on September 8th. Neither of the women or Stephens have been charged with murder.
Police did not say how the women were connected to the murder. The investigation is continuing.
