Man Charged After Shooting Co-Worker Outside Bar
Early Thursday, an argu- ment between co-workers turned fatal, when one of them was shot to death.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reports that Logan M. Schwab, 29, has been charged with second-de- gree murder in the shooting death of Evan Godwin, 25.
Detectives said Schwab had been drinking for hours at the One Night Stand Bar in Valrico.
Schwab and Godwin, both employees of the bar, were tak- ing a night off when they left the bar after it closed. Wit- nesses said the two men were friends and co-workers who provided security at the bar.
Witnesses said Schwab was in the parking lot arguing with an ex-girlfriend who was trying to talk him out of shooting at bottles in the parking lot of the bar.
After an employee of the bar walked outside and saw Schwab arguing with the woman, detectives said God- win told Schwab to get in his car and go home.
Witnesses said Schwab had a gun behind his back, and Godwin’s weapon was hol- stered. A man stepped between

Schwab and Godwin in an effort to stop the dispute, and said as he faced Godwin, a bullet blasted pat his ear. God- win fell against a car and dropped his weapon.
The witness told detectives Schwab stood over Godwin and shot him five more times, striking him in the head and chest. Schwab then tucked the gun in his pants, got into a vehicle, and drove away.
At 3:13 a.m., someone called 9-1-1, and when deputies ar- rived, Godwin was dead.
Detectives tracked down Schwab and said he admitted to shooting Godwin. He is being held without bond on a charge of second-degree mur- der.

Driver Who Killed Cook Pleads Guilty
The man who killed a St. Petersburg chef in a hit-and- run crash last year entered a plea of guilty Friday to vehicu- lar homicide and other charges that could mean he’ll spend 46 years in prison.
According to police, Jason Mitchell, 26, was drunk and speeding through the city’s downtown at 2 a.m. in April 2015 when he ran a red light and struck Aaron Davis, 31, and Brian Lee LaFrance, 28, at Central Avenue and Sec- ond Street.
Mitchell and his passenger, Rayvorris Oliver, tried to drive away from the crash scene in their rented car, but police intervened, along with employees at Push Ultra Lounge, and he was arrested.
Police said after Mitchell’s arrested, he tried unsuccess- fully to escape from police headquarters. His blood alco- hol contest was 0.092.
Davis, who was a chef at The Kitchen, died in the colli-
sion. LaFrance was hospital- ized in critical condition, but was later released from the hospital.
Mitchell entered an open plea in court and will be sen- tenced to anywhere from 13 years to 46 years in prison.
An attorney for Mitchell, Kelly McCabe, reported that Mitchell entered a plea be- cause he didn’t want to put anyone through a trial. She also said her most recent plea offer, a 17-year sentence followed by probation, was rejected by the Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney’s Office.
