USF Chief Appoints 1st Communications And
Marketing Officer

Recently, the Chief of Po- lice at the University of South Florida appointed a Commu- nications and Marketing Offi- cer. Her primary roles include serving as a primary media contact for the department.
Other responsibilities as- signed to Ms. Renna Red- dick are serving as the Coordinator for Departmen- tal Special Events, and the primary liaison between the University of South Florida Police Department and the University of South Florida’s Communications and Mar- keting staff.
Police Chief Chris Daniel said, “Ms. Reddick comes to the department with more than 15 years of diverse and progressive leadership experience in the areas of communication, manage- ment, marketing, education, administration, and inves- tigative analysis.”
Ms. Reddick said, “I am very blessed, thankful, and humbled that I was chosen to be the University of South Florida Police Department’s first Communications and Marketing Officer/PIO.”
She continued, “Although my professional and educa- tional experience were impor- tant in securing this position. Equally important is a life- long quest of striving to be a person of integrity and char- acter.

emotions or actions involving hatred, envy, jealousy or bit- terness. Rather, I have strived to maintain a ser- vant’s heart and to always keep at the forefront of my mind the importance of being “slow to anger” --- all of which have proven to be very pivotal for my personal, professional and spiritual growth.”
Ms. Reddick obtained her Associate’s Degree in Journalism from Darton Col- lege, in Albany, Georgia. She continued her education at Florida State University, where she earned a B. A. De- gree in Communications. Ms. Reddick holds a Master’s of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of South Florida.
When time allows, Ms. Reddick enjoys traveling, weight training, yoga, tennis, Zumba and Latin dancing.
She also serves as the pro- ducer and host of a music and information program that airs on radio station WMNF- FM (88.5).
Fire Marshal Releases Report On Two Fires In East Tampa
Tampa Fire Rescue Fire Marshal Investigators have released their incident re- ports on two fires that oc- curred within six blocks of each other early Monday morning, April 18, 2016.
A fire at the Celestial Church of Christ, 2802 North 34th Street at 1:47 a. m. Mon- day left the single story wood structure completely de- stroyed.
One person was inside the structure when the fire started and escaped without any injuries.
While the Fire Marshal in- vestigators was conducting the investigation, he noticed an area that required addi- tional overhaul, and called fire crews back to the scene to extinguish the smoldering area of the structure.
The investigation revealed that the fire originated in the main assembly area near the choir seating. The ignition source was a malfunction of an electrical outlet in that area. The building sustained $59,000 in damage.
As firefighters and other personnel were still at that fire scene, at 6:40 a. m. they got a call of another fire six blocks away at 2716 29th Street.

extinguish the fire, they no- ticed a man trying to escape through one of the windows. First responders quickly came to the man’s aid and pulled him from the window. He was treated at the scene before being transported to a local hospital as a trauma alert.
According to the incident report, the home was vacant and known to be frequented by vagrants. The investiga- tion revealed the origin of the firewasabedinoneofthe bedrooms. The structure was a total loss, and the actual cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Road Closure On Laurel Street From North Boulevard To Doyle Carlton Drive To Begin May 2nd
A portion of Laurel Street, including the bridge, from North Boulevard to Doyle Carlton Drive will be closed starting Mon- day, May 2, 2016 and will reopen in early September as part of a Capital Improvement Project. The City contractor will be re- placing damaged steel structures and painting the Laurel Street Bridge.
Pedestrians will not be able to walk over the Laurel Street Bridge. Pedestrians will need to use the Cass Street Bridge to access between downtown and the west bank during the con- struction period.
