AS THE MEC FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TOURISM AND ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS WRAPPED UP THE 2019 YEAR, SHE EXPRESSED HER APPRECIATION TO CAPTAINS OF INDUSTRY AND THE PEOPLE OF KWAZULU-NATAL ACROSS ALL SECTORS FOR MAKING IT A MEMORABLE AND UNFORGETTABLE YEAR.
Emnothweni highlights some of the many activities that the MEC has been involved in during the year.
International relations: As acting Premier of KwaZulu- Natal, the MEC and the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Executive Council held a bi-lateral meeting with a high powered delegation from the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg – Germany to strengthen political and trade relations between the province and the Baden-Wuerttemberg.

AN INSPECTION
OF THE PORT OF DURBAN
Nomusa Dube-Ncube held a series of meetings with the Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan, Transnet management, the eThekwini municipality, the Durban Chamber of Commerce and stakeholders in the maritime industry, and was con dent that a lasting solution to the congestion at the Port of Durban could be found.
She said that a decision had been made to set up a task team involving all stakeholders. This team would use an integrated approach, as guided by the District Service Delivery Model, to turn the situation around. An ef cient port is a very important asset for any country as it acts as a conduit for global and intra-regional trade.

NEW BEACH PROMENADE OPENED
As the MEC responsible for Tourism in the province, MEC Dube-Ncube and eThekwini Metro Mayor Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda, of cially opened the Durban beachfront promenade in time to provide a memorable experience for festive season holiday makers.
She said the opening marked an important milestone in Durban’s quest to become the top tourist destination. The realisation of this mammoth project gave the province a strategic asset and challenged everyone to ensure that as a nation, maximum bene t was derived from it.
