Michael Wilson
About the time I started college in 1971, I bought my first serious camera, a
Pentax SP500. I began slowly, limited by my student budget and time, but
eventually I developed a few skills, built a darkroom in my laundry room,
and was off into the world of Black & White photography. As time went
on, I met Chizuko, we got married and moved to a house where I no longer
had a place for my darkroom. My working life became busy and my
photography evolved into simply documenting vacations and family get
togethers.
That all changed with the advent of digital photography. From about 2000
on, I have moved through a series of digital cameras until my current
Canon 5DmkIII in 2013, which I feel is comparable to the finest 35mm film cameras of the past. And
with Photoshop, I have a near perfect modern darkroom without the chemicals or mess.
I now focus mostly on the artistic aspects of photography and push myself to learn new things every day.
Almost any subject is interesting and presents its own challenges, so I try not to limit myself. I enjoy
macros and closeups, landscapes or seascapes, birds in flight, and racecars fighting for position on track.
I also like patterns, textures, and minimalist themes. And now that I'm retired, it keeps me (and my
brain) busy.
