FEATURE ARTIST: Mark Moore
My interest in photography started after college when I could afford a single
lens reflex camera, film, and processing. Over time I added lenses and the
weight of my gear increased. Fifteen years ago, I switched over to digital
photography and began using Photoshop to enhance the images or to merge
images together. At this stage in life, I’m trying to reduce the amount of
weight I carry and I mostly use a smaller camera that has a single 65x zoom
lens.
My favorite subjects are found in nature though I don’t restrict myself solely
to nature. I enjoy hiking and vacationing in National Parks so I’m able to take photos of scenic locations
and wildlife. While I like the light provided at dawn or dusk or uniform lighting of an overcast sky, it’s the
bright light of mid-day that most often needs to be used. I use The Photographer’s Ephemeris website to
help determine lighting conditions. I also take pictures of my wife’s quilts with a five foot tall tripod that I designed and built so that the quilts can
be laid flat on the floor with the camera mounted overhead.
I’ve taken a few classes and the most inspiring was a three day outdoor workshop with Marc
Adamus. I was a member of a photo group in Campbell, CA that arranged for monthly
photoshoots at places like the Stanford Cactus Garden, Filoli Gardens, and the Merced
National Wildlife Refuge.
