        KEY SELLING POINTS

A new collection of poetry exploring anything and everything, with humour, irony and a quiet perception.
The poems tackle recent politics, love, war and climate change, as well as more personal and philosophical
          subjects.

The Very Now Poems are exactly that: about the war in Ukraine, Global warming, the cost-of- living crisis, a
visit to A & E, stress, insomnia-yes, they’re there. But it’s not all doom and gloom: even the direst situations can
be leavened with humour. No matter how scary the world, we need to be entertained: in fact, alongside action
to save our planet and our future, we need comfort, we need to be able to smile, whether by recalling rare and
beautiful places in our lives (by places, I also mean people) or by the very words themselves, reminding us how
full even the meanest life can be.

One poem (Puddings) is simply about the joy of puddings, while another (The Comfort of Chocolate) twins
global warming with –well, the title says it all! It helps nothing and no-one if we’re stunned into miserable
passivity. Even an unwelcome sexual experience can be transmuted into dark humour (Pigeon Pecked).

The poems offer a shared recognition; a love of words that wriggle their way across the page; satisfying
rhymes here and there (Dark Matter) a quantum poem; love 21st century style (What of Love). Poems with a
literary feel, pleasantly padded with rhymes and imagery, lyricism; poems that declare themselves more
stridently; love (What of Love), the obligatory cat poem (Cat and Mouse) it’s all here. Enjoy!

Jane Michelson Vuglar, through a difficult early life, discovered books and poems really mattered. Moving
house many times, books always came first. She has found performing and poetry workshops, with fellow
poets The Foxhall Women’s Writers’ Group, were inspirational and led to her first published work.
