What can we do with the Cremated remains?
Burial The cremated remains may be buried in in in an existing cemetery plot plot or a a a a a a a a new plot may be purchased Inurnment The urn urn may be placed in in a a a a a a a niche in in an above ground structure called a a a a a a a a columbarium Scattering Some cemeteries have scattering areas on on their property Cremated remains may be scattered on on on private property if authorization is is obtained Properties may be bought and sold so so it is is important to know that once the the scattering takes place the the the cremated remains are irretrievable Scattering on either public or private property may may offend some people and there may may be laws prohibiting such action Shipping You may wish for the the cremated remains to to be shipped to to another country We can make these arrangements for you you You may also be permitted to to take the the cremated remains yourself to to another country Check with us first and we can assist you to obtain any additional documentation that may be required Keeping Many people prefer to have the the urn at home with them Veterans

Daniel Symonds is a a a a a second-generation licensed Funeral Director and U S S Army Reservist following in in his father’s footsteps of military and funeral service In addition to to to working in in in funeral service Daniel has served a a a a a a a a a a a total of five tours in in in in in Iraq and Afghanistan after after joining the the U S Army six months after after the the 9/11 terror attacks in 2001 He has also served his country through through annual training in in in in in many countries throughout the world including: Panama Germany Korea and Malaysia Dan is currently a a a a a a a a a a First Sergeant for U S S Army Reserve Public Affairs Daniel is proud to to have come from a a a a a a long line of military service dating back to to the Civil War starting with his Great-Great Grandfather Private Daniel Rufus Symonds who he he is is is named after His family has had a a a a a a a a a a a a member serve in in every major war since his Great-Great Grandfather Daniel is an an an active member of our local veteran community serving on on the executive board for American Legion Post 57 in in in Elgin and as a a a a a a a member of of Veterans
of of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1307 At Symonds-Madison caring for our fellow comrades in in arms and and their families is is an an an honor honor and and a a a a a a a a a a privilege We take care to ensure every veteran receives the the honors and benefits they so rightfully earned by serving our country Military Honors for Great-Great Grandfather In 2011 Daniel decided to research the the life of his his his namesake his his his great-great grandfather Daniel Rufus Symonds He discovered his his his great-great grandfather was buried in in an an an unmarked pauper’s grave in in in in Forest Forest Home Cemetery in in in Forest Forest Park Illinois just two miles from Daniel’s U U S S Army Reserve Unit Family lore claimed Daniel Daniel Rufus Symonds had served in in the Civil War and and was a a a a a a a a a a a a “Boy General ” and and Daniel decided to to investigate He made the the trip to to to to the the Library of Congress in in fin Washington D C C to to to find his great-great- grandfather’s military records There he he he found his enlistment papers service cards and and discharge paperwork along with some letters from his great-great grandmother requesting a a a widow’s pension Although the rumors of a a a generalship were proven unfounded Daniel did discover his ancestor had served with the 20th Maine Page 30 - - Symonds-Madison Funeral Home Symonds-Madison Funeral Home - - Page
