charge to transfer your loved one from the lower mainland or Powell River area back to the Sunshine Coast.
How long does the cremation process take?
Depending on a person’s size, weight, height the process can take between three to five hours.
Can we place Personal Mementos in the Casket prior to Cremation?
Yes. We encourage you to write a letter, bring a flower, send drawings from children or grandchildren, place a poem or any other meaningful items that will help your loved one on their journey. Many personal items may be placed in the casket; however, some items may need to be removed prior to the cremation process. All items left in the casket will be destroyed during the cremation. Your funeral director can advise you on what items may stay and what items must be removed from the casket.
Do we need to have a Funeral if we select Cremation?
Cremation does not limit the type of funeral service that may be chosen. The same options that apply to earth burial are available with cremation. Some of these choices include casket type, location of the service and visitation, music, selection, open casket and the display of personal mementos. Many families choose to have a Celebration of Life at a later date to honour their loved one. It is recommended that the Celebration is not postponed for a long time as the process of planning and arranging the celebration is necessary for the grieving process. Some families elect to have a complete service at the funeral home or another venue. Others prefer to have a procession to the crematorium, similar to that often done to the cemetery, for an earth burial.
Is Embalming required?
Embalming is not mandatory; however, some circumstances may require it. If you prefer an open casket with a visitation prior to the service, embalming is highly recommended.
What is the purpose of embalming?
Embalming is a process used to sanitize and temporarily preserve the body of a person who has passed away. It can also enhance the appearance of a person that has perhaps suffered damage from an accident or illness. By preserving the body through embalming, we can give you and your family time to make personalized and meaningful arrangements, including a viewing if desired.
What is an Urn?
An urn is a container designed to hold the cremated remains permanently. It may be constructed from a variety of materials such as wood, bronze, copper, steel, pewter, granite, marble, clay pottery, biodegradable scattering urns as well as dissolvable urns for ocean release. Urns may be personalized by engraving. They also come in a variety of sizes that allow more than one member of the family to have a portion of the cremated remains.
Is Cremation less money than Burial?
Cremation is now a very popular choice for disposition as the costs are usually less than full burial.
Where can I scatter my loved ones cremated remains?
In general, it is legal in BC to scatter remains in public places. When scattering in private places you must get permission from the landowner prior to scattering.
