Flutist Allison Kiger during a concert for the Bar Harbor Music Festival.
In its 53rd season, the Festival promises, in addition to a month of world-class concerts in venues all over the village, another
fully staged opera at the Criterion Theatre. This year, it will be “Carmen”, a production that Fortier says will cost $35,000.
Since the Festival’s inception, it has relied on the generous donation of housing from Bar Harbor residents, as well as financial

support from donors. The tickets for each concert remain affordable or free, keeping the Festival true to its mission of bringing qual-

its purpose. Says Fortier, “To lead an audience from an experience that is easy for them, to one that is a new adventure, is my mission.”
